If you do tramping on a 4 on 4 off basis what are the chances of sharing that unit with someone on the opposite 4 days?
Have wondered that myself before now, I would say, more than likely,
Seems economic sense for a firm to be running the vehicle continuously same as an old firm I was with used units to pull double decker’s to hubs at night, then day guys would jump in them for daytime deliveries.

If a company is running a 4 on 4 off shift pattern it would tell me that they have work for 7 days a week. Therefore I would say it’s almost impossible that your wagon would be stood for 4 days while you were off. However it may be a case that you just share it with 1 other driver and you both make the effort to keep things clean and tidy.
Matt.
Spoke to a tanker driver who worked for a recycling firm, he did 4 on 4 off but the other driver was his brother.

100%. Who is going to have a unit sat unused for four days especially when those four days will include one or more days from Monday to Friday?
If you want to guarantee you don’t have to share a unit when tramping then buy your own.
Surly that’s the point of that shift pattern is to utilise the truck 7days per week

Or find a real Gaffer who looks after his lads and work hard to look after his business .
It’s a two way street.
But Strangely like Conor I don’t think you will find one on a 4 on 4 off shift pattern.
Ps. Is the wife that bad you want to be away so many weekends ?
Sounds like shift work to me don’t know where tramping comes into it
I know that Jack Richards do 4/4off tramping

He would need to share Unit with 3 more Drivers. If he is Day another for Day and 2 for Night. Otherwise may an Agency Driver mess all up.

You can’t really expect a firm to park up the units for HALF the working year do you!!![emoji15]

If it was 5 on 2 off or 6 on 1 off or 6 on 2 off even, I’d be willing to let it stand (if I was a gaffer). But it makes no economic sense to have a truck sat still for 50% of the time. Especially if I’ve got extra work on and an agency man coming in, or myself or someone from the office with their class 1 to fill the extra spot or whatever the toss. That truck would be out. No regrets.
But if it’s standing 15%-30% of the time I might be more lenient.
My boss wouldn’t let a truck stand idle for 4 days a week , the only ones in the yard in the day are either VOR service or the Pallet ways night or just come back from night out

Mine does… Nobody drives my unit or pulls my trailer but me, if a driver is on holiday weather it’s 2 days or 2 weeks it stays in the yard & the driver always has the keys, working or not
Why need own truck for tramping.

Whys that bald bloke,I’ve done 4 on 4 off tramping for 11 years the main problem is the driver your teamed up with I’ve had some right pigs running opposite me and having to share the same bunk with them, trick is to by a good mattress protecter and plenty of antibacterial wipes not many firms offering this shift patten anymore seems to unworkable for many companies I’ve been told my company wants to scrap the 4 on 4 off for mon to fri tramping that will be me putting my notice straight in if they do,
