Own unit on 4 on 4 off tramping?

If you do tramping on a 4 on 4 off basis what are the chances of sharing that unit with someone on the opposite 4 days?

You can’t really expect a firm to park up the units for HALF the working year do you!!![emoji15]

Mine does… Nobody drives my unit or pulls my trailer but me, if a driver is on holiday weather it’s 2 days or 2 weeks it stays in the yard & the driver always has the keys, working or not

Mine is too plus most Fri afternoons and usually til about 4/6am on Mon morns. :sunglasses:
But the bossmen ain’t gonna let it sit for half the year if on a 4on/4off which is what my 1st post was ref to :exclamation: :exclamation: :neutral_face:

You’ll undoubtedly share it with an opposite for the other four days, that’s a given but if you’re asking if the truck will be dedicated to just you and your opposite as your/his truck and that’s it, its quite possible. Some firms will give the two drivers a dedicated truck, others might not and it could be a cab hopping situation.

The only 4 on 4 off I’ve ever done was here in Canada and myself and the other chap had a dedicated truck that only we drove and if one of us had time off then the other chap got the option of extra work if he wanted it.

Remember it can be 4on/4off with an opposite driver BUT you could have the exact same situation on a nightshift so if truck double-shifted 24/7 that’s FOUR dedicated drivers!!!

Whys that bald bloke,I’ve done 4 on 4 off tramping for 11 years the main problem is the driver your teamed up with I’ve had some right pigs running opposite me and having to share the same bunk with them,trick is to by a good mattress protecter and plenty of antibacterial wipes not many firms offering this shift patten anymore seems to unworkable for many companies I’ve been told my company wants to scrap the 4 on 4 off for mon to fri tramping that will be me putting my notice straight in if they do,

Well 4 x 4 would be my ideal shift pattern and yes i’d be taking a chance sharing with someone but it’s a small compromise in my eyes, and i can’t see why it’s unworkable you have the truck going 7 days a week and possibly out of those 7 days 6 of them could be 15 hr days.
