Lads, seeing as it is now an instant fine if the cops see you travelling too close, give me some room before you pull in in front of me after overtaking, there are no medals for pulling in too quick but I will be the one who gets the fine because you were showing off pulling in so close you scrapped the bugs of my bumper
I spose its been done to death but yeah, i get ■■■■■■ off with some drivers wiping my windscreen on the way back in. When i get flashed in, il always leave it an extra 10 yards on top just out of courtesy. Ive had a couple of folk last week or so not even give me time to flash the headlights before they swing back in.
Where did you hear about the ‘new’ police crack down on the subject?
I’ve noticed it a lot recently that people pull in really sharply after overtaking. Suppose it’s down to lack if courtesy these days, not a lot of people seem to flash you in anymore. Don’t get me wrong a good driver can judge when he/she are safely past but it’s a bit of reassurance that the driver you are overtaking is comfortable with the amount of space they have.
I only flash people in because i think its about being friendly, kind of saying hello.

I’ve noticed that too, rather than indicate and gently drift, it’s like a deliberate effort lane change, they seem to bounce around - if they manage to stay off the hard shoulder - and generally look really uncomfortable.

VOSA must be skint, also a massive purge on load secured properly.
I think you will find that any charge of driving too close will only be brought after observing the vehicle for a small time
This means that if another pulls in front too close then what the following driver does next is key …
If they back off immediately and keep doing so until a safe gap is reached then no problem
If they do not back off then they make themselves liable for the charge
It might be very inconvenient for the following driver especially if it keeps happening
I would have liked another FPN adding to last list for pulling in too quickly in front of another

The Department for Transport is consulting over new, increased powers to fine drivers for a wider range of traffic offences,
ï‚· Driving too close to a vehicle in frontï‚· Wrong lane on a roundabout
ï‚· Ignoring a lane closed sign and pushing into an orderly
queueï‚· Lane discipline such as remaining in lane two or three when lane one is empty and there is no other vehicle to overtake
ï‚· Inappropriate speed
ï‚· Wheel spins
Fines and points are proposed, issued roadside, distinct oder here of old fashioned police power to discriminate, how does a driver whose just been passed by someone who has ‘returned’ sharply prove he’s the innocent party?
How many roundabouts have lane markings to accomadate hgv’s?
Im all for all of the above but where are the old bill that are going to ‘police’ these new rules, powers whatever you wana call it? The government have laid most of em off FFS.

So funny the police are having to cut back and all the above would need twice as many to police it we all see the above at least 10 times a day

Dear God please no.
Overtaking drivers cutting in too quick bugs me too. It makes no sense to have miles & miles of Motorway in front of us yet some clever sod has to prove he knows exctly when the ■■■ end of his lorry has passed your cab & in he comes. They gain nothing but still have to be in front of everyone.

Thanks all for the feedback. I heard somewhere about the travelling too close rule hence my post. Quite honestly I am an avid searcher of clear road. Its not easy to do this all the time but if you watch for it , it can be done. I have found that traffic tends to come in clusters and that between each cluster there can be no traffic at all. As we are all on limiters it is sometimes difficult to speed up to get ahead if you see clear road in front. But if i see it in the mirrors I frequently back off before re-engaging the cruise. Am I the only driver that does this ? Because if you’ve never tried this it makes a world of difference to your driving experience. It costs seconds in time to implement but once performed you give yourself a much clearer view of the road ahead and your drive will become more relaxed thus you will get to your destination less fatigued. The mentality of some drivers to pass you at all costs beggars belief. The number of times I am part passed by a full load at the bottom of a hill amazes me. No thought goes into the terrain these days. Not many of us are paid any more for getting there quicker, quite the reverse in fact. So why make life difficult and pay for it as well.

Hang on.
If the sign says that lane 2 of a dual carriegway is closed in 600 yards for instance, surely that means that for the next 600 yards the lane is still open and you should be getting ready to get out of it when possible. Far as I am concerned that 600 yards is there to be used and good luck to those who use it.
Typical of brits who love to queue up for stuff to opt to join the back of a long line when the other lane is empty.
I think you will find that - ignoring a closed lane sign and pushing in - refers to those who hammer down the other lane and then try to force their way in - I wonder how many of us would like to see those drivers get an instant FPN - I know I would

A lot THINK they can but then go on to prove they can’t after nearly putting you in the hard shoulder and/or taking your mirrors, the knobs can’t just wait a few secs for a flash, they simply MUST get back in asap, one of the examples of the changes in the job today down to crap drivers that makes my ■■■■ boil
