Overspeed limits

Just interested in how high you let it run before you touch the break or if you dare post your highest overrun speed…

I’ll start of at saying My limit is 100kph & I run 44tonne 90% of the time so any downward slope & lady gravity is giving me a little push.

An ex driver of ours go a final written for doing 117kph

I’ve had 70 mph a few times but this was pre limiter days and back in the 80’s but still illegal i know but it seemed ok then

96KPH and I do it every night although there’s one point on the A66 near Stainmore where the hill descent won’t quite hold it so I’ve gone a fraction over before giving the brakes a quick dab. I don’t worry about overspeed and it appears neither do the company any more as I’m still getting As on the microlise scores which are put up on the notice board.

paddy overdrive, aff the ■■■■■■ clock  who cares

wont the overspeed still flash up if you run on to 60 on a motorway?

which seems stupid as your not speeding.

Tacho regs dont just apply to uk trucks, they also apply to trucks from other EU countries who’s speed limits are lower than ours.

Well said

so fast the ■■■■■■ speedo needle snaps off the stopper

I usually knock the exhauster on about 60mph if I’m concentrating, if I’m not then who knows, it might be around 65ish when I think ‘kin ell this is moving a bit’… Oops!!

Lol. Windy hill has caught me out a couple of times!

I do the same as Rentadent.

no but you are exceeding the speed the truck is limited too . the french have a lovely habit of checking for overspeed and fining heavily if exceeded 100kmh . iv also been done on an analog card for hitting 100k comming down wrotham hill in the morning and fined in france in the afternoon for the morning speed in the uk

I thought the law had changed and its now 56mph max and not 60mph.

We get pinged for infringements on over speed at anything over 56mph. I get at least three a week but thankfully its ‘advisory’ not a slap on the wrist.

On a night trunk with a little DAF and a loaded decker trailer coming down Brighouse Bank from Ainley Top (M62)
it was well off the clock and I guesstimated at least 85mph.

Any where near that sort of speed your just asking for a tyre to blow as it heats up from the constant extra speed, then your in the brown stuff.

Well it didn’t so I wasn’t!
P.S. Pre speed limiter days such speeds were commonplace especially so on night trunks.

Go upto 70mph probably most days.

My scary moment was 78mph down birdlip hill a few years back, i think i was overspeeding all the way down the dual carriageway at the bottom. Atleast it was just a 20 odd ton rigid.

No, the limit is still 60mph.

 Bigger balls than me. I bottle out about 70 down there and then sometimes let it drop into neutral down the last bit past J25 and you can get about half way up the other side to Hartshead Moor just on the overrun  . Tibshelf to J29 on the M1 is another place when you can get some serious speed going if you let it drop into neutral/E+. It’ll be even better when it’s 4 lanes as you won’t get stuck behind all the idiots that sit side by side dabbing the brakes at 58 mph [zb]ting themselves they’ll get an overspeed infringement.

Never worked out why microlise and isotrak mark you down for overspeed…surely (apart from legal and compliance problems) overspeed is actually a good thing for mpg, planet earth etc as you make it part way up the next hill without accelerating!!

Bloody lucky many were then cos that was regular speeds under power at night time in them there olden days, and a constant 70 on days wasn’t unusual.

Is it correct what I have been told that the latest generation of tachos are GPS enabled and will be pinging for all speeding infringements, enter a 30 doing 32 and ping, highlighted on you card for ever and a day.
