Got overtaken on the M69 today by a Simon Gibson motor, he didn’t acknowledge my flash in of course (nothing new there then)
I caught him up approaching the first roundabout on the Coventry bypass and noticed he was driving erratically. He was braking way too early for the roundabout with nothing in front of him and no queue ahead, he was also wandering into lane two.
As we accelerated away from the roundabout and I was lighter than him I started to overtake him knowing exactly what I’d see as I passed; sure enough the living, breathing embodiment of why we have mobile phone laws! Not only did he have the phone in his right hand making it highly visible to anyone passing him he was also busy texting/facebooking or whatever at the time.
I’ve got a theory about mobiles in that some people can use them with no problems, but others such as this guy shouldn’t even take them to work with them!
I usually adopt a live and let live attitude with this sort of thing but I KNOW the driver is a member on here as I’ve seen the truck in the picture thread, so I’d like to take the opportunity to say “dude, you really do have to stop that. The chances of you killing or injuring me are tiny, but trust me you WILL kill someone else!”
Not getting into an argument here, but the too soon slowing up for the roundabout you’ll find i do too without the aid of the phone though.
I don’t use the brakes unless absolutely necessary, (very often you won’t see my brake lights at all) instead i’ll use the exhauster correctly with as low a gear as practicable for full ■■■■■■ and time my approach, if possible, in order to straighten the roundabout out to maintain normal progress…this curve straightening obviously only happens when others won’t be inconvenienced, endangered or put out with indignation etc.
I’ll also be using both lanes just before the roundabout and just after, the racing line if you like, again i don’t do this if its likely to inconvenience or perturb others.
Agree with you about phones and other distractions, one size does not fit all, some can drive competently naturally, some can’t and never will.
I do however think that someone who holds a hand held up to their shell like right beside the drivers window is a ■■■, will be seen as taking the pee out of plod, and nicked accordingly.
miked:
if he was driving eratically and drifting into lane two why did ye overtake him?
He was drifting prior to the roundabout and I decided to overtake on the exit because (a) I wanted any carnage behind me and (b) I’d quite happily take my chances on a relatively low speed side swipe to ensure I achieve (a)!
Juddian I know what you mean about slowing up well in advance and I do that too but over a mile before the roundabout with nothing in front using sharp amounts of foot pedal?
Also, using the phone to make a call I can deal with, but as I said in front of his face texting or whatever is just taking the ■■■■ imo.
I work for Gibsons, it wasn’t me I was on holiday today. All the trucks are used on drivers days off so unless you know the driver by sight then it could have been anyone. The only other user of this forum I know is no longer employed for Gibsons. I would be interested to know who you think it was?
I have no idea who the driver (or username) is mainly 'cos I have neither time nor inclination to trawl through the photo thread. Perhaps the driver who originally posted the truck pic has left the company in the meantime? Who knows? The truck however has appeared on these pages.
I’d like to stress that I wasn’t bothered by it because quite simply the chances of him hurting me or mine are negligible, and quite frankly if he destroyed the life of a stranger it would have no impact on my world. No, the reason I posted in the first place is that if he reads it then maybe, just maybe he’ll consider what I’ve written and save himself in the best case a lot of money and in the worst case a custodial sentence.
To sum up then, I have no interest in informing the Gibson high ups, the police, MI5 or anybody else, but if I can prevent possible future problems then I’ve done my Christian act for the day and can get on with the serious business of being a ■■■■ to someone else!
