I was over there only last week

Jolly good, I just remember the ads Ralph Davies had on back of the trailers for drivers FOR UK WORK ONLY!

That was awhile back as I haven’t seen any for ages, not sure but I think the website still has that ad(not looked as I don’t need too  )

BTW the one you might of seen on the M6 by Walsall last tues/weds would of been me. :grimacing:

Despite thinking you know it all you know nothing about this company, their drivers or what they pay so stop making dismissive comments about them eh? I’m sick of the negativity in this bloody industry and on this forum. You ever heard the phrase live and let live?

You’re right, I don’'t know their drivers. I can’t comment on this particular instance specifically…

But this is haulage. Money is tight. No one is quite making the money they once did. So expensive trucks have to be paid for somehow…and sadly, it’s often at the expensive of the driver or used as a ‘sweetener’ to deflect attention from a lower than average wage. And some drivers fall for it.

Great if that driver gets a flash motor and a great wage to match. But you know as well as I, that sadly it’s often not the case… :frowning:

well it is the case at whites.

i know, i went and did it over christmas for them.

not for the flash truck, but for the flash truck and a good wage.

and a bit of nostalgia.

Just Added this to the fleet

Very Nice :sunglasses:

Now that’s a machine .very tidy.the very best of luck with it and may the wind be behind her, although I don’t think it’ll need it with all them horses!

I know there’s a big answer to this but from a man who’s been there and is still there.
Why scania and daf over volvo.genuinely interested in your opinion.

Going back a few years ago we went to an auction in Preston when Parkinson’s sold up. He had top Spec V8 Scania and we were surprised how easy they sold and how much they went for, we bought 5 meat railers. Rays aim then was to slowly transform the fleet into V8’s. at the moment we have 2 x500, 1 x 560. 4 x 620 (inc 1 limited edition Dark Diamond) and 2 730. And 7 dafs, we have just place an order for 4 new 620s with Scania. 2x 6x2 and 2x 4x2 (delivery 1st April). The scania’s are a lot more expensive than the dafs £30k more each truck, but they are much better trucks in my opinion but when you sell them they are worth £30k more. Bullet proof. Better fuel returns and on the long haul hanging meat work that we do better suited to the job. I posted a picture on here of one of my 730’s fuel returns. 950km at 9.03mpg. Plus the drivers that work for me all prefer the scania. The reason we sold all of our volvos was due to the very bad service we got from Volvo action. When we had a breakdowns in europe, volvos main concern was payment up front. Once a truck pulled into a French motorway parking area for a 45 min break. Tried to restart the truck and it wouldn’t start. We diagnosed the problem as a faulty relay. Usually only a few £ to replace. French highways would not let me work on the truck where it was and charged €1500 to tow the truck to the nearest Volvo dealer. Then Volvo charge me €1000 euro up front on my credit card before they would even look at the truck. Then I had to fight to get my money back as the repair came to €400 plus Volvo actions commission . Daf aid or Scania assistance priorities are to fix the truck 1st and worry about payment later. We transport hanging meat all over Europe and even further sometimes. Reliability of the truck in paramount for us. My dad/boss Ray actually prefers to drive the volvos. He had a left hand drive 660 and loved driving it. He said driving scania’s hurts his back. But I prefer the look of the scania. They are in my opinion the most prestigious looking truck on the road. We spend a few quid making them look nice. And I think I have got some top drivers that really look after them. A few people put comments on here that the drivers earn crap money because they drive top spec trucks. I can assure you this is not true. Decent trucks, decent work & decent wages attracts the best drivers out there and I can cheery pick the ones I feel are most suited to our work. I have never used agency drivers and never will and I will never use foreign drivers. I think I have probably had 100 drivers ring me since the new year looking for work. Which is a shame that so many drivers are out of work. I will look after the drivers and spend money on the trucks. all I want in return is reliability and for them to look after my kit. Some of my drivers have worked for me for 10 years plus. We do very little empty running and have our own export work that keeps us busy all year round. The drivers favourite is the Norway run. Take hanging lamb to Norway, reload fresh Salmon from Norway to France, reload bread/yogurt/cheese from France back into the uk.

Went off the subject a little but I hope this answers your question.

Cheers. Pete White.

This was Rays FH16 660

Ignore the bitchers and whiners - you have been at it long enough to know what your about . First thing I want to know about a company is not what the pay is or what the trucks are - I want to know how long the drivers have been there for . If drivers are
staying - they are happy and content with the work the money and the tackle .
I said it further up - if you need holiday cover - let me know  I’d like the challenge of the work and getting 10mpg out of one of those 730’s)

That’s quite tasteful, not too blinged. I like them.

Have you seen the 730 ex demo at bellshill Scania. It was at Gaydon last year, it pulled the tea trailer. Would look good with Ray White on the front…

Thats down to personal opinion !!

R-730 all the way…

Either way, you couldn’t say that either a Volvo FH 750 or a Scania R 730 had been correctly specced for channel-hopping fridge work.

Does it matter? It’s nice that some people can still afford to run flagships, even if it is just ‘channel hopping’ to Norway…
