The Paddy (nice bloke btw) who comes into ours for the Manc trunk has a tag axled 164 and claims its nudging 800 brake and would pull a loaded trailer up the side of our warehouse! Talking to him a few weeks back, he was saying it went into a ‘stealership’ for some minor work and told them not to let anybody near it with a laptop…needless to say, laptop was connected and his ‘map’ was erased…not bumped into him since but he was ‘in discussion’ with Scania

Gotta love the 164 men who come out with these nuggets. I tend to pop them in the pinch (more like an ocean) of salt category.

When the 580s were as high as it got, about a decade ago, one driver told me that his had been chipped to 1,000bhp… :open_mouth: I’m sure someone might have believed him sooner or later.

no 164 580 that would out pull my 750 Volvo at 44T up Reigate

depends on what speed we hit the bottom of the hill at :grimacing:

www you jump in your 750 ill take my 164 580 ish load both trucks to the same weight and run to inverness from down sarfff, ill be the 1st one there nuff said :grimacing: full legal driving hours

£100 on it?

Thing is I don’t believe it. There isn’t a motorway hill in England that will make my fully loaded 750 slow down, let alone change gear. And factoring in hillier Scotland even then she’s almost never out of top gear let alone far off the limiter. So maybe, if its chipped, by chance you may be there first, but the 750 will be right on your back doors.

So maybe we should make it more interesting, load a full load of oranges Valencia, run back via the Millau viaduct and see who uses the least fuel and who’s in front. Because I can do that run with an average speed of 87kph at a shade under 9mpg

I’ll put my willy away now

P.s, it doesn’t matter what speed I hit hills at, I can be stationary at the bottom of most hills and I’ll still be on the limiter halfway up

That must make a very stress free drive when you get balked by someone as opposed to the mental calculations I have to do when catching someone in lane two up halfway up a hill and I’m trying to figure out how much to back off so I catch him just as he clears the slower one in lane one and moves back!

Never works of course as I invariably have a muppet in a small hatchback who sees a gap in lane two so pulls in from lane three and proceeds to brake in front of me! :imp:

Yeah but can it do wheelies? Bet it can’t.

That’s exactly what it is, relaxing. No matter how much I’m slowed down on a hill she’ll just accelerate back up to the limiter in no time. The only problem is its probably made me lazy and come the day I have to drive a normal power truck again I’ll have to start thinking.

It’s hard to explain how well it pulls. The best I can come up with is its like being empty all the time. I expected a lot from this lorry but even then it surprised me. My Dad is a man who’s terminally underwhelmed by everything, but he drove it for a week and even he was waxing lyrical about it afterwards.

The funny thing is I was never a power obsessed driver, I was happy with my little R440. But now I just know everything I drive after this will be underwhelming!

Oh and still the most powerful lorry on the road, 3 years after getting it. Scania Fanboys hate that fact

Does it drop any speed at all when hitting brighouse westbound m62 ? Ino it’s different but in the 460 daf I drive with a 5t box on it slows down maybe 5 mph then up to 56 again , I’ve never drove a 750/730 but but would be interested to know if they are flat out all the way fully loaded

Better pictures of the new trucks.

Red Passion. R580.

I saw a Dutch Red Passion yesterday, the only thing different to yours was that it had a nice trailer behind it.

All my trailers are paid for !!!
30 trailers at over £50k each when I bought them from new.

I’m happy with my fleet but I appreciate your observation.

Come on, that’s pretty pathetic.

well each to their own but I agree with Kindle.

You have fantastic fleet of motors that most people on here would love to either drive or own. Your trailers are also good kit, one of the best marques but they do not show your fine fleet in the best that it could be.

If you look at Pulleyn or SDM European, you would say they look a fine outfit , truck and trailer.

If you make a comparison to your outfit, you say great lookin truck .

I remember when my dad got a brand new F89 , all white and black chasis, he had this flat trailer on, and the when we arrived to load, the fork lift driver said beauty of a truck, shame the trailer lets it down.

He never pulled a flat again, picked up a brand new Freight Bonallack Fridge from Grimsby to match.

Three difference with SDM our Pulleyn is the truck and trailer stay together. It’s easy to keep tidy trailers when the driver keeps the same one all the time.

We do possibly 50 trailer changes a week… You will always see my drivers parked in Calais having time off waiting for trailers as the hanging meat has to go straight through… Every abattoir I load from has stand trailers. In an ideal world I would love to keep same driver with the same trailer but it is not possible with my work. For example… I send a trailer from UK to Monaco Non stop every week. Trailer change in Calais & Lyon. The trailer goes from load point to delivery point in 24hrs when it should take 3 shifts !!

WWW

Ah ok yes does make it difficult. Do you send the trailers unaccompanied to Calais? If so do you get much damage?

If you do a changeover at Lyon does that mean the driver who has to collect and deliver Monaco is in France for a while then ?

I don’t think the trailers look that bad ok there plain but they do the job the sign writing on them is clear and readable what more is needed ?

20yrs ago you could have done that with one unit and 1 driver :grimacing:
