Our New Toy - V8 R-730

I dip into this thread now and again (you must remember me W.W.W…Victor Meldrew  ) I admit Mr W runs an impressive fleet and seems to look after his drivers financially (which is a bit more important than posing around in a fancy motor) and best of luck to him I say.

But I reckon even WWW is a bit taken aback by some of the serious kiss arseing that some of you guys practice, I mean, seriously it’s a bit embarrassing/cringeworthy to say the least, but hey, he may enjoy it, who knows.
Some of the more embarrassing among you make Eddie spotters look sane :unamused:
Will dip in again in a few months, as I know WWW genuinely values my opinion so much, and looks forward to my comments

Ironically, at a 580 that’ll be one of the babies of the fleet

So is that every special edition of Euro 5/6 Scania you’ve got now?

Golden Griffin is the one we don’t have !!! But there is one available in Scotland. The ex Demo. 4x2. £123k !!!

Save your dough! the ones you have IMO are far more impressive than the Golden

Wanna really stand out from the crowd? Get one of your Chereaux painted same as the Black Amber and bling your name. Then watch the interest and publicity flood in, not to mention more business following suit!

Surely the residuals help a lot when considering a truck like this. Yes it costs a lot more than say a Stralis but in a few years time the Stralis is worthy only for Export whereas they’ll still be queue of OD’s waiting to purchase a Black Amber

A 5 year old well looked after high spec V8 scania is always a very sizeable deposit o a newer truck.

A 5 year old Renault premium is worth hardly anything !!

You get what you pay for !!

Scania’s are expensive but the extra expense is returned when you sell it.

BUT:

The kind of dough your spending on the “Black Amber” would prob get you TWO new Premiums/Magnum or
dam close to it :exclamation: :exclamation:
Yes in 5yrs they may be worth near “Diddly squat” compared to the V8 Scania’s but run them right and they’ve grossed
DOUBLE :exclamation: :exclamation:

I now drive a “blinged up” Topline R480 and to be honest I’d take the MAN TGX480 back tomorrow,
its better in EVERY department(both driving/living) to the Scania apart from reverse gear :exclamation: :exclamation:

Each to their own… Ray has always said and I quote ““if I won a Renault in a raffle, I wouldn’t even pick it up””

WWW

paid 56,000 for my premium new 5 years ago,has earned me 140,000 a year, just sold it for 21,000.not a bad return.

Would still choose the Scania !!

But best of luck with the premium. Not knocking anyone for what they buy / drive. Each to their own !!!

Few years back Renault salesmen came to see us and I told them we had just ordered 2 new V8’s 620’s @ £103k each and he said that we could have had 3 Renaults for the same price. I asked how long they would last and be reliable for… He said 3 years. Then I asked what they would be worth after 3 years and the answer was not a lot !!!

How much would the 3 460hp Premiums gross in 3yrs compared to the 2 620hp Scania   :grimacing:

No doubt youse have a very impressive fleet but I’d be “heart scared” to work there in case I put a wee scrape on one of those yokes :exclamation: :exclamation:

I guess I’ll never find out !!

I look forward to your next comment in a month or 2…

Everyone may have got bored by then !!

I only comment / reply when the thread comes up on my feed that a new post has been received !!

WWW

That’s OK mate, but I was beginning to think you were ignoring me, I was gutted!
Don’t worry I ain’t trying to butter you up to ask you for a job…I’ll leave that to your fan club   speak to you in a couple of months. Victor.

www…. how do you go about putting a driver to a truck ■■ is it like our place seniority ? or is it to boost morale if you think a good driver is getting bored ? I expect some drivers don’t want a new one and are happy with what they got ■■

I’m sure I could find the answer if I read all 37 pages, but I can’t be arsed.

WWW, do you find you end up with less accidental damage on your units since they are all pretty special? Just wondered if that was another reason why you opted for the V8 Scanias over the Premiums that seem to come pre - dented??

We still get our fair share of damage !!!

is it a thing you have always done or is it more driven by your customers that its a smart fleet WWW?

WWW,
here’s a wee senario:
Cajole Ray into buying a new Renault Tseries460 @ what say £60k??
With the approx £60k saving over a Black Amber invest it in a tax efficient ISA for its 5yr working life.
There is a decent chance the £60k saving will grow into £80@ yr5!!!
Split that investment with the Tseries driver 50/50,
see how many men choose the V8s over the “lowly” Renault yoke then!!!

Love how everyone is now trying to tell WWW how to run a business that is clearly doing quite well with him at the helm already, if he likes what he’s doing, where’s the harm?

Personally, if things were going well I’d have one special/high power truck as a show piece. Nicely done, kept well clean and so on, where as the rest would be workhorses. But I admire fleets like WWW as they add a bit of spice and variety to the roads. Always like it when I see “FH16 750” or “R730” along the Motorways, shows some see it as more than just a tool.

Do you know what “tongue in cheek” means!!!

Big Truck:
Do you know what “tongue in cheek” means!!!

Checking for ulcers■■?

We only buy the trucks we have because we want them not because we need them. 730’s and 750’s is too much power for what we need to do our work. Very rarely are we running at max weight. A 410 Premium could do the same work and save us a lot of money but that is not us…

I hear due to the weakness of the € V’s £ atm work to the Continent is rather slack to say the least.
A few empty trailers going over channel to bring loads back WWW??

Jan and Feb have been tough months due to the strength of the £.

Easter is upon us and that is a good sign… Spring lambs in the fields make me smile a lot !!!
