Our New Toy - V8 R-730

I thought there would be a reason why. Are all the trucks on continental work or do some stay over here? (No doubt you’ve answered that a dozen times and I have missed it!)

I try to keep the 6x2’s on the local work… France / Belgium / Holland, the 4x2’s mainly do the Norway / Italy / Denmark / Spain / Portugal etc etc

But any truck / any driver can go any where at any time… lol

the 4x2’s mainly do the Norway

You and the Poles! No, wait, even they run 6x2 in Norway now. Never mind!

EDIT: Fixed the quote.

50 loads to Norway last year with out any incidents… My drivers are better than average !!! (A Lot Better)

Rear tag would be ideal though tbh…

whats wrong with taking 4x2 to norway??

Hills + Snow/ice + 2 axle wagon = no good!
With a tag axle you just lift the axle up when you need more traction. With the tag up you get more pressure on the driving axle(dont know if that’s the correct term, but you understand)

i understand over a 6x2 mid lift…
but surely you get the same weight on drive axle if its 6X2 tag or 4X2?

No, as the axle is more in front. With 4x2 you distribute the load between first and second axle, with tag you take load from first axle and third axle and put on second(drive). Does that make sense?

yep  thanks for the explaination.

Tyres make more difference than axles anyway. Winter tyres on a 4x2 would be better than normal tyres on a 6x2 tag. Nes pa?

Wasn’t that one you just repainted red a Tag?

And a diff lock and a decent driver with some basic understanding of what he’s trying to achieve. Not like the foot to the floor brigade or worse 20 km oo I’m gonna crash gang.

yes, all those foolish scandinavians could just learn to drive and stop using summer tyres with no tread left - instead of buying tags.

I was considering deleting the whole thread to be honest… I only put the original thread up just to show our new truck 12 months ago… (as we were very proud of owning an R730) But if people keep showing interest and asking me questions it would be rude not to reply. There was an awful lot of negativity in the earlier posts but the latter ones are quite interisting in my opinion.
I dont walk on water, or turn water into wine or feed 5000 with a loaf or bread & 2 fishes, But I do have an tightly run transport company with good kit, good work & good drivers…

Moderators please can you delete this whole thread if any of you read this. (I tried but couldn’t work out how to do it)

Cheers WWW

No no no don’t delete it! All it does is make your company look good and all the miserable poster look like bitter begrudgers. People just like dragging others down to their level, I know that more than most! Just let it wash over you, then sit at your desk and remember what you in charge of and remember you are getting the last laugh.

As for 4x2’s in Scandinavia? What’s the problem? I’ve been to Scandinavia in the winter in a 4x2 more times than I can remember and not had a problem yet. In my opinion you’re better off with a good winter driver in a 4x2 than a Muppet that thinks he’s invincible in a 6x4. And you see plenty of drivers who think they are invincible in Scandinavian winters  You Norwegians cant expect us to buy Norwegian spec trucks for the odd trip.

W W W ,Just having a bit of banter and wind up mate, in my own miserable  begrudger sort of way  (thought the clue was in the smilies, but hey ho) Try and lighten up, didn’t mean to spoil yer weekend, I’ll go and thrash myself with a wet copy of Truck and Driver and watch back to back episodes of Eddie’s trucks and trailers as pennance. You can’t leave now before 20 pages… sorry I’m off again.
Seriously though mate, good on yer for looking after your drivers and paying them well, I used to find if you treat employees fairly you get a much better attitude to work back, and it’s much more productive, it is sadly lacking in today’s haulage industry.
This does NOT mean I’ve joined your fan club though :unamused:
