Other lorry drivers playing silly burgers

Dipper_Dave:
Although there are no doubt folks out there who love to ■■■■ a fellow driver off, most of the issues experienced by the op are caused by riding the limiter. This gives you no room for acceleration.

If one learns to cruise at well below max speed then one has a much easier road in life.
This goes for everthing really, once you are aware of your limitations life becomes much smoother.

My truck is limited to 55 yet I cruise all day at 51 which is the first cruise setting, this allows me to use the second cruise setting of 55 for overtakes and Fridays. I can also knock her inyo neutral on downhill sections and acheive almost 70mph when heavy, but this is a bit dangerous and best left to us box jockeys.

If everyone around you is flat out then having something left in your pocket becomes a massive advantage. Getting stranded letting a fellow sister in is an occupational hazard, simply pull in behind and spend the next 50miles contemplating your revenge.

Learning how other road users act is part and parcel to this job, expect to be shafted and maybe one day you may meet a fellow trucker who surprises you by easing off to let you back in, that may just be me. Unless its a Friday then consider yourself stranded…

Also dont be to quick to ovetake, judge the situation and let the other truck reach their cruising speed before considering it, you may be lighter and have faster acceleration but the truck your passing could have a faster top speed.

Theres more advanced stuff like assesing another trucks load and upcoming gradients but this comes with time.

Talking of coming I had ■■■ last night…

Remember we are drivers, learn to enjoy the journey and you will enjoy the job.

The best post so far in this thread, or would be if I bothered to read them all. :grimacing:

I’ve not been driving long, and I’ve already worked out that letting yourself being “hung out to dry”, can at times, be your own fault!
As you have given the power for someone to you over, to them! Which isn’t smart considering the nut jobs on this forum (No offence Dipper!) Yes I’ve found myself almost past someone as we reach the top of a hill, only for the buggers to come back up the inside of me when going downhill, as he’s heavier than my VAN!!!

So now I plan my attacks, along with my evil mater plan for agency limpers to take over the world. As I’ll sit behind another truck for a bit to assess their strengths and weaknesses, and if I can be arsed, I might overtake them. But as I’m only a Class 2 VAN driver, I don’t tend to do long stretches of a road… So I generally can’t be arsed, as there is little point, and will instead drop the CC a few clicks while I sit there making a Voodoo doll of the offending driver who has dared to hold me up, and who I will over if he gives me half a chance! :smiling_imp:

P.S. R U cheating on me Dave! :open_mouth:

Tris:
I too like to be courteous, but take for example hitting a jam on the M25. You can’t afford not to tailgate in lane 1 or some cooont in a Audi MP3 (or whatever you call them) weaves in and out in front of you. As for the “easy in the old days comment” I’m just teasing.

To be honest, i’ve found in traffic t’s better for everybody if people leave a nice gap in front of them and keep the wheels turning slowly. That way, people can merge in from the sliproads and make any lane changes they might need to easily without causing big waves of braking.

Conor:
You’re only ■■■■■■ because you know the agency drivers are on more money than you’ll ever earn…

I’ve heard that one before, do you have an original one?

dozy:
just ignorant Londoners in general are

Voyage on the Woolworth not go too well? Would you add pesky marine accident investigators to that list?

there’s drivers then there’s drivers! !! think we are all to old for the crap that we have to put up with as a driver ,your late your have to wait can unload you pal till tomorrow it just goes on and on .No proper washing facilities not anywhere to park , don’t know how my drivers put up with it am just lucky that I’ve got a good bunch of bloke ,but I have been there and got the tshirt

Is it just me, or is it becoming more common for other lorry drivers deliberately messing you around on the road?

I used to have a lorry with a very high limiter setting (60mph) so it was never a problem, but I’ve recently been using a slower one and noticed that when I try to over take, the person I’m overtaking speeds up like car drivers do so I can’t get past. Then they slow down again when I give up. Why? I know the riding on the limiter vs a few clicks below has been done to death, but why speed up just to stop someone overtaking?

Also if I move over to let another join the motorway they match my speed so I’m stranded in the middle lane.

And another thing, if I’m overtaking and we hit a downhill stretch I’ve noticed the other driver will dip the clutch or turn off the exhaust brake so I can’t get past … now that’s not bad in itself … I realise that it’s easy to overspeed, but they wait till I pull back in and THEN hit the brakes.

Maybe I’m just being paranoid, but it does seem to be happening more and more. Perhaps it’'s just little games being played to relieve the boredom on the motorway

some are Gay and do just everything to get attention
