I’m in Orwell Crossing tonight and am sad to report it’s been suddenly sold, most staff made redundant. The couple of guys left have no idea who it’s been sold to or what their intent is.
Still doing parking with shower for £15 for the moment, but the restaurant and bar is gone.
It’s not that sudden. It’s been on/off for a few months. You’re right though, nobody knows who’s buying it. They were supposed to exchange contracts 2 weeks ago but it’s dragging on. I think the buyer has cold feet, as the council have said it must remain a lorry park, and they won’t pass any planning that deviates the usage. Trouble is, she had a date, so laid everyone off and sold all the contents. I think she’ll regret starting the process

Seems a bit idiotic of someone to buy it without attempting a planning application first.
I’d wager that they just assumed it would be fine as it virtually backs on to ransomes. And probably didn’t want to show their hand to the current owners incase they jacked up the price

£15 that’s an expensive shower
Yep considering Lockerbie is £12 parking or £17 with food but there’s also a 24hr shop ,key fuels, bar, barbers ,resturant ,rooms
Tarmacked parking area
It was reported it was running at a loss for the last few years in the trade press a while back.
Shame really as l used to use it a bit a few years ago and it was one of the better truckstops about and a good location too

Their business rates would have been horrendous. Still, someone has to pay for the local councillors to go on jollies to their Twin Towns across Europe and have £60,000 a year pensions.

Was in there last week and woman in the huck shop was adamant the people who turned around the hollies was buying it
I was told the exact same thing. The reason the bar and restaurant are closed is apparently due to it not meeting the standards of the new buyer. Only time will tell I suppose…
Please explain to me why it’s always MY box (no one else just MY box) that you have to have your break before lifting, put on the wrong way round, dangle over the skelly for 20 minutes before dropping, or just plain can’t find the ■■■■ thing for an hour!
