Ooooops, be careful out there. One for the Stobbie Fans

I’ve been up on the A66 all morning in my spec first then the wrecker, it was unreal up there.
The road just looks wet, but it’s very very clear ice, black ice.
Ice so bad it was difficult to walk on.

Hard to winch 'cos the truck won’t stay still.
The van I went up there for first was covered in clear ice, more than half an inch thick on the screen.

This is bad. 2 years ago a young lad was killed on the A1 just north of Barton when an artic slid on black ice, that was the same type ice, very difficult to walk on let alone drive on.

Why these major trunk roads are able to get into this state is beyond me.

One observation - Years ago I was sure there was grit in the… errr… gritter.
Now it seems there’s only salt in it. I think what’s happening is, the salt melts the ice which turns it back to water. Then it freezes again, making even better/smoother ice.

When it had grit mixed with the salt, once the salt melted the ice, if it did re-freeze, the grit would be frozen into it, giving at least some purchase.

did anyone notice it was one of fast eddies partners trucks that was in the ditch going the wrong way up past stainmore that put pixie man off the road

explain that to the insurance company

what the ■■■■ was woodchip man doing
getting to the delvery point on time the same as pixie man

The Story Continues

If this can happen to one of the elite drivers of stobart what chance have us cowboys got we best all park up until the spring

Could be anyone one of us. does it matter who he works for?

They weren’t the only firm to have vehicles damaged today. It can happen to anyone when conditions are like that !

Yea but its not as interesting

BIGGEE:
there will be the spotters sending it a get well card !!

no doubt when they find out it was one of the t.v series [superstars] who ended up in the ditch, ive no doubt theyll be a outpouring of grief

happysack:
Just about to mention Luke, no disrespect to him, but when he goes in a ditch its a major catholic out pouring of grief on here. A stobart motor does the same and its time to snigger.

his own depots drivers seemed to find it highly amusing,so if there not bothered i guess why should this shower

merc0447:
You mean the dangerous cream cakes wont get to tesco :open_mouth:

This the ■■■■■■?

thats him

chaversdad:
just watched the poor sod being interviewed on the local news, it turns out one of jenkinsons didnt realise the snow gates being closed meant dont go any further and turn round
So he decided to dodge round them by swapping carriageways and carrying on with his eastbound journey on the westbound side :open_mouth: poor Mr stobby had nowhere to go except down the ditch, the jenkinsons motor was parked half a mile down the road facing the wrong way on the westbound carriageway

funny part was he escaped through the sunroof and the local news man said he climbed out of his “emergency escape hatch”

scottishcruiser:
This the ■■■■■■?

Who’s the ■■■■■■ ■■?

scottishcruiser:

Anyone know the drivers name then? No Truck and Trailer fans on here?

Great pic Cruiser! :sunglasses:

He looks a bit, err, rotund to have made his exit through the ‘escape hatch’

switchlogic:

no he isn’t rotund, it’s the new stobart issue air jackets. They inflate on impact.
