So does your illustrious career include a stint as an o/d or are you in fact from ■■■■■■■ and recently sold (2004) your haulage empire to your younger brother and his chum?
If the op was after advice on matters IT then you would undoubtedly be the person to go to, but as usual the grand sum of your advice is: don’t do it qamaamb, and Patrick Stewart in his pyjamas.

Oh, btw hows the new hobby coming on ?
Your inquisitiveness matters not. All you and anyone else on here need know is that I am fairly well versed to advise on many things ‘owner driving’ related, particularly the money-making aspect.
Anyway, as I said to you on the previous page, I am done with this BS. Please feel free to pass on your own owner driving advice and secret money-making tips to the darkseeker kid as he asked, I’ve already given my 2p.
take it now you are into “e-commerse” and making all this great profit you have moved out of the bedsit now and are living it up in a mansion somewhere in Hampshire

Based on those in depth credentials I withdraw all previous comments on this thread.

See the 2nd post on this thread, the one just before Jean Luc realises he left the oven on!

shock: You have rumbled me! I’m an ebay seller! . I’m feeling in a generous mood today so I’ll give you that actually as I did used to sell on ebay many years ago and rather surprisingly it was quite a profitable little venture too, but didn’t last long and I ended up in a police cell but that’s another story.
As you asked what line of work I’m in, it’s a niche area of IT. Do a search for a thread about wifi at MSAs and you’ll find several posts from me giving an insight into my business.
MMMMMMMMH didnt …GARY GLITTER SIT AT HOME AND PLAY ON HIS COMPUTER AS WELL saying he was doing a niche area of IT…

Can I get some change please, 'cause what I’ve heard from you ain’t worth that much.
This is something I would like to do in the future as well but like Darkseeker it is along way off. I used to work for my Dad when he ran his own business and I got quite involved with running it along side him unfortunatly the business took a turn for the worse when a company went bankrupt on us owing us a lot of money we managed to keep it a float for a while but the stress of it made the old man ill.
It doesnt put me off trying again though in a good few yeas down the line though me and my Dad made mistakes along the way but if that company didnt go bankrupt on us we would probably would of still been going today. I think there is still money to be made out there and if you have the right attitude and the right contract.
I dont know this but maybe Rob had a bad experiance as an OD but found another way of making money out of a business so fair play to him, but Rob if it went wrong for you doesnt mean it will go wrong for everyone else.
I have only just got my class C so I have along way to go and much to learn before I even really think about starting up on my own but I think it is good to have a goal in life.
Finally hats off to all you owner drivers who are making it through this recession, just proves that not all truck drivers are thick hairy louts.

The way I see it you only get one shot at life, I would of thought an entrepreneur such as your self would be more willing to advise a new OD rather than put him down.
I have read loads of posts were you are telling owner drivers they are basically fighting a losing battle and if they are saying they are doing well you question it.
If someone says they are thinking of becoming an owner driver you are phoning the men in white coats on their behalf
I am just wondering why you think it is such a bad idea, I am not jumping to the wrong conclusion its just from what I have read from the comments you make concerning ODs and other people have the same opinion.
I always thought that maybe you tried it and it didnt work out, but you have said it is not that so what is it?
Or maybe from your comment on my removal job post it is that you know it is hard work and that scares you

If you’ve “read loads of [my] posts” as you claim then you will already know the answer to “I am just wondering why you think it is such a bad idea”.
I like the way you work, you have an opinion but not willing to enlighten us on what your opinion is based upon.
I know how you like to go on about how the rates are so poor, but if you are not doing it how can you know for sure what the rates are and if you are not the one sat in the drivers seat how can you know the rates are not worth working for.
Any business man will know what they need to earn to make it pay and if they can do it for £1.00 a mile (just the figure you like to mention) then fair play to them any business man who goes into it not knowing what they need then take on a contract with a rate that isnt going to pay then they aint a business man just playing a dangerous game with there future.
When I say I have read through loads of your posts, I mean the posts about owner drivers and the majority of them are negative. But I dont come onto this forum very often as I am not an owner driver and any thought of becoming one is a very long way off if at all so maybe I am missing something.
I agree with a lot of things you say, especially concerning the big boys who are able to cut rates to a minimum but there must still be work out there or else we would only see the big boys on the road.

Because it is irrelevant to the discussion. You came here looking for advice on being an owner driver. If you only wanted opinions from current ODs then you should have said so.
I know how you like to go on about how the rates are so poor, but if you are not doing it how can you know for sure what the rates are and if you are not the one sat in the drivers seat how can you know the rates are not worth working for.
Just because someone is not doing something now does not mean that they have not done it in the past.
