I had an ex fleet taxi Citroen BX with just over 1 MILLION miles on it, then I got an L reg Xantia that was a piece of crap, then I got an M reg Xantia that was amazing and by time it got wrote off by the missus brother it had 385k on it, then I had another 5 Xantia’s and 3 XM’s (2 were crap though tbh) and 3 ZX’s.
I’m quite a fan of French cars tbh, when I can pick them up cheap I run them till their death.
I am now driving a 530d that got wrote off nearly a year ago, it’s got 182k on it and the auto box is getting a little lazy and a suspension sensor is sending incorrect info to the ecu but it drives well and is good for well into 3 figures along with leaving most cars at the line.
I had 1 frontera that was ■■■■■■ never owned another
I used to drive Vauxhalls - had an X reg Astravan, a 9 month old 05 plate Corsa, then an 03 plate Astra then an 05 Vectra, didn’t have any problems with any of them except the Vectra where it needed a new starter motor…
Now I’ve got a 54 plate Fiesta…
I used to have a 51 plate Vectra Estate SRi 130 2.2DTi up until about a year ago. Was actually a really nice car (not a drivers car though). All was well until the fuel pump decided to fail. Whilst on a camping holiday. With the wife and kids. 200 miles from home. Without national breakdown cover. It got scrapped as the cost to repair outweighed the value of the car (the car had more issues).
Never buy a car with a Bosch VP44 fuel pump fitted, namely the 2.2DTi Vauxhall engine, early ford 1.8TD, early VAG 2.5 TDi to name a few.

Chaz, I own the forum on my car windscreen mate, nothing you can tell me about these cars
For info they are NOT 100% Isuzu
Is it true they took the chassis direct from the Carlton?
Nope, the chassis is from the Isuzu Trooper (and thats from the Isuzu Wizard LWB and Isuzu MU SWB) but they rot big time thankfully Vauxhall took the pattern and produced their own chassis that dont rot (Ladder Chassis)
Though the very early Frontera’s with leaf sprung rear suspension (1992 to 1995) Had a 2.3 diesel engine and that was the same as the Carlton engine, just for the record its the same bottom end as the 2.4 petrol Frontera (same years) that in turn is an 8 valve derivative of the old Opel Manta engine

Ah right, was just summat I heard many moons ago. I remember the Manta well but I was too young to know any details about them. I just knew that they were awesome
The old manta was arguably one of the most tunable affordable engines going And bloody solid.
Shame the EU got involved in engines, safety fair enough but emissions… let the public trade emission points like Government’s if we live in a democracy
i have had plenty of vauxhalls only had so called issues with 2 of them 1. was oil coiler went on a astravan and 2 i killed my vectra by driving throu a massive puddle at 50mph i would happily buy another vauxhall but i would be seriously picky sayin that i just bought a astra sxi on a 51 reg for £330
Once bought an astra 53reg cdti, didn’t even make it home from the dodgy dealer be for it broke down. Had a 406 1.8 x-reg many moons ago where the cam belt snapped & wrecked the engine, I’ll never own a French car or a vauxhall again, I now drive a Mazda 6, serviced twice, changed the clutch, trouble free motoring…
Ps-I can’t stand petrol engines:lol:

Mazda 6 engines have problems with the oil pick up being too close to the sump pan, so they clog up meaning they don’t deliver oil around the engine = dead engine, so I suggest when you get a bit of time, you bang it on ramps and drop the oil pan off and clean the oil pick up and the actual pan itself, only costs a few quid for a new gasket and some oil and will save you having a dead engine.
The frequency of the oil change isn’t the cause, it’s the actual pan and gasket breaking down slowly + all the crap that the sump nut collects, and the pick up is just too close.
You can move the pick up slightly (but not much due to it being a shallow pan) or buy a modified pan (but these have been known to catch on those big diamond type speed humps) or just clean it out periodically. They say every 40 - 50k but 100k is when you 1st start having issues as a rule.

I owned a Sh7troen grand pigsasshole on a 57 plate what a money pit that was, never again
The frequency of the oil change ensures that the pan, oil level etc is checked & anything abnormal is picked up & highlighted by the guy who does it for me, he hasn’t said anything so I’m not sure if it’s modified or not (i never look under there, I just drive it, I have no gear for maintenance)…its a 2.0 btw

Extremely lucky, I’d go and get a couple of Toyota’s before it runs out.
I’ve got a 9 year old vectra gsi with 95,000 miles on it, the only things that have gone on it have been 2 front springs (probly from speed humps) & some bits of the exhaust, same clutch, never let me down, nice to drive & the engine is a peach.
Wouldn’t go round a track but I couldn’t give a chuff about that, it’s still a time machine in a straight line even after 9 years.
Had a few vauxhalls in the past including 2 carltons one with 180000 on loved both carltons would not have a newer model don’t like them love a lotus Carlton though lol currently got a 320 e class with 90000 on in the two years I’ve had it only had a spanner on for servicing
