One red faced driver

bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-devon-20311745

A bit faster and he would have made it!

“Hello Boss.”
“Hi driver - what’s up?”
“Err - I got a bit of a problem.”
“Oh?”
“Yeah. Well… You know that arched bridge in Mutley?”
“Yes.”
“Well - you know you said I would get under it easy…?”

:open_mouth: :open_mouth: 2ft higher than the bridge, that’s a proper errrr boss

2ft taller and they thought that letting the tyres down would get it low enough to get the truck unstuck.:?:

Devon, must have been Big Vern.To be fair to whoever the driver was…one side of that bridge is about 4metres and the other just over 3,it actually sits on a very steep
hill, I did at one time live about 100 metres from it and whoever is not the first.

Err…Excuse me mate.

Where do you want this bridge delivered to?

NOT GUILTY  I’m at home abusing myself…And others elsewhere!

Is that the bridge by the railway depot?

Not quite vern, its the first one from Mutley plain heading toward Laira out of town. Theres an Esso garage on the corner.
I hope that comapny has a good insurance company, I think its about 400 quid for every minute a train is delayed on that line IIRC
Network Rail will be looking to claim that money back.

if it is 2 foot too tall, how did it get so far thru without taking the top off the box?

Good point but that hill into the bridge is very steep…air suspension maybe.

Rail services in and out of Plymouth were disrupted after a lorry became stuck under a bridge.

The Palmer and Harvey vehicle was wedged beneath the bridge on Ashford Hill in the Mutley area of the city.

Devon and Cornwall Police was called to the scene and Network Rail said train services were delayed as it had to impose a 20mph speed restriction.

The lorry was eventually pulled free and the road reopened. An investigation has begun into the incident.

A Network Rail spokesman said the lorry was 2ft (0.6m) higher than the bridge.

A rail engineer has been sent to assess any structural damage to the bridge and rail passengers have been told to expect a short delay.

An initial attempt to free the lorry by deflating its tyres was not successful.

Palmer and Huntley said it was “investigating the incident fully”.

“We apologise to anyone affected,” it added.

The lorry driver has not commented.

what if it’s a mistake and there named the driver there you never know there do make mistakes :stuck_out_tongue:

Isn’t that quite a low lorry (beforehand)? I mean, he almost made it under a 10ft 9. I suppose, looking at it, on the left hand side of the photo where the lorry is, the clearance might be 11ft and it’s only a warning sign, not a prohibition so all in all… still a mistake.

Maybe 2ft higher but he has done bloody well almost made it. We share a depot wae P+H gona print this pic out for them

Just seen the lorry on local tele, the roof has been ripped off but it doesn’t seem to have damaged the fridge motor.I think the 2 feet claim is exaggerated indeed
probably it was only a few inches too high.Wotsit happens.

its on a hill as seen in the pic. on the flat it will be the same height but as the front begins to go up the hill and the rear axle is still on the flat it will raise the height in the middle of the truck which is where its caught the bridge. had he been going down the hill he would have caught the front of the roof as one side is clearly closer to the road surface than the other side of the bridge

It’s all Hitler’s fault: if his f…n’ bombers damages all the low bridges, after the war new, higher ones could  be built…
