I think she is winding you up Larry. The CLK is a nice car,but not quite as sporty as that. But then again I only run a sprinter  .
Cheers Dave.

Oh! it must be “posuers” night tonight !!

Bit of interesting history with this car ! It had been ordered in W.Germany but to British C & U spec,It was ,I believe, registered in Shrewsbury although it was all but new when I bought it off a dealer pal,it had about 1000 miles on it and was about 3 months old.It had been built with a few additions than what could be ordered from a UK dealer. It had leather seats with harris tweed inserts and the front seats were heated.the UK spec was either Velour or Tex covered seats.it also had an electric sunroof AND air con,the UK spec could only have one or the other. It was also fitted with a German spec Blaupunkt/Becker radio cassette player which couldn’t be specced from the UK.There were one or two other differences which I can’t just recall now. However, when I went to collect it after it’s first service from Staveley Motors, our local dealer,at that time,I was confronted by the dealer Principal ( a right ■■■■■■ !) who demanded to know where I’d got the car from !!! as it wasn’t,in his opinion,a UK spec car so problems could arise.I told the cheeky ■■■■■■■ to mind his own buisness,as I’d bought a good few cars off him in the past and if he wanted me to continue(which I did !) he’d be well served to keep his nose out of my business !! But it was a great car while I ran it,probably the best car I ever ran,but the 6 cyl Merc diesels took some beating, especially as my annual mileages climbed up to circa 40000 in the following years, and basically the artics spilt more derv on the floor than my Merc cars used so I was being economical with the engine specs I ran !! The 450SEC did about 22/25 mpg,on a good day whereas the diesels did circa 36/40 fairly hard driven.Happy days cheers Dennis.

I’ll have you know that is definitely a CLK young man.
OK, I AM indulging in a little bit of a wind-up
That one is the GT racer version, but it’s a CLK none the less.

Only a coouple of humble vans this way

hiya,
Ha yes Dave , but it is a Mercedes and Ford have turned out some classy motors
in their time too, I used to love a Zephyr Zodiac that I owned when Adam was a
lad, did fall out with Ford when they introduced their “rot box era” have had the
bodies literally fall off an Anglia and a Cortina I “briefly” owned, it does tend to
put you off a particular maker, yep for the same reason no Vauxhall or Austin /
Rover for any length of time, cost me a fortune in glass fibre and aerosols and a
Mk 1 Jag i ran for a while had a cardboard floor easily replaceable from the little
shop on the corner of the street, it was pre MOT days I hasten to add and although
you could see the road between the pedals it was a pulling machine and I was still
single in those days, wish I still had the Zephyr Zodiac though.
thanks harry, long retired.

Hi Harry,
The Zodiac’s were nice cars and those six cylinder engines sounded nice.I had a Ford Anglia didn’t like it much only kept it 10 months, changed it for a two year old mark two Cortina then I had a new mark three Cortina in 1972.
Had three Cavaliers with 2.0i engines excellent cars.I did 132,000 with one of them it was going as good when I sold as when I had it new.The last car I had was a new 2.0i Vectra in 1998 which I only kept two years.I bought an old petrol engined Transit in 1998 as well which made life easier than transferring in and out,so I sold the Vectra and the old petrol Transit and bought the red Transit which I still have. Its done 250,000 miles, but I took it to Jacks Hill yesterday and did 261 miles and it went well.My Sprinter is out of action at the moment as the pump on the lift is faulty, only a small job replacing the O rings and it should be OK.
Cheers Dave.

Aye I wish I still had mine all thats left is this Handbook, Regards Larry.

My last new car bought in 1998.

How do you do that? I have a photo of my motor on my computer, how do I transfer it (as in copy and paste…doesn’t work) from my file to here?
I’ve tried but I can’t do it. I’ve also get a photo (not on the computer) of the first NEW AEC I ever got, a Marshall, 1961, I’ve got a scanner but I’ve no idea how to go about it.
Any help would be welcome.

Hi Brian,
You need to scan it then send it to paint, then copy it to one of the photo forums such as photobucket or flickr.
There are various ways to do it,there is a way to put it straight on to this forum, but they have removed the post explaining how to do it.Someone will explain better than I can.
Cheers Dave.

Hi Crowbar,
My Dad had a brand new Anglia which was a good car.The one I had didn’t go that well.I remember a local bloke called Arthur Brick rallying with a Anglia in the 60.s,he later drove in the London to Sidney rally in a MK 2 Cortina.
SNY is a South Wales number possibly Swansea. Its not one that I recognise, but some of the South Wales members might know of it.
Cheers Dave.
