Days on the road? I remember one dark snowy night I was coming over the Brecon Beacons (no motorways in those days, i was only a young fella), I had a Commer with a TS3 in it…it got warm and it de-coked itself. I was terrified, I though the world was coming to an end, it was just like a volcano erupting.
I later found out that it was a normal thing for the TS3 to do. :unamused:

Hi Brian,
I also drove a Commer TS3,a Maxiload but that didn’t decoke, not while I had it.I often went over Brecon Beacons which aren’t that far from here.As you say pre motorway days a lot of transport travelled the A470 when the steelworks at Ebbw Vale and other plants in South Wales were still going, also all the coal wagons which hauled from the various pits.
Cheers Dave.

Thank you for the calender Sammyopisite, My first & last wagons, Regards Larry.

Well Makro had Singletons whisky buy 1 get 2nd half price at £16.49 but as I have just had the car MOT & TAX’D didnt really have the cash or might have just had too as would be rude not too

I seem to recall it was a load of (I think) Phurnacite. It was a smokeless solid fuel. I think the phurnacite plant is closed now, it was a long time ago.

I think the Phurnacite plant cllosed in the 80’s Brian. There was a battle with the owners from the former workers over health issues caused by the fumes working there.I don’t know if it was resolved and they got compesation. Some of the South Wales members on this forum may know.
Cheers Dave.

Hiya Larry, hope you had an enjoyable Christmas,we did, just back from Kendal after 3 day’s at our son’s.As much as I’d like to join you and your “motley” crew for a good craic, suitably lubricated by the sounds of it,I’m afraid it is a non-starter ! Anyhow,I’ve been led astray and got into lumber too often in the past so it would be more than my miserable life’s worth to start those antics again !!! But I wish you and the other lads All The Best to-morrow and I promise that at about 7.30/8.0 pm to-morrow I’ll toast your Good Health !!! well any excuse for a drop of the amber nectar eh ! Cheers Dennis.

hiya,
Was just about still in the land of the living when Larrry arrived 7-30ish but was rather well lubricated very soon after, but I had been giving the very large single malts a bit of wellie commencing at home before getting to the venue at around 1-30 got a thick ear when I arrived home could do with a “livener” but daren’t venture near the drinks cupboard just yet the “old lady” may venture to the corner shop shortly and I might just be able to “steal” a swift one in her absence, still this experience has taught me a valuable lesson yes I’m going to stow a bottle down the shed, she won’t question it when I explain I’m popping down there for a screwdriver.

hiya,
Same wishes from me as well Norm, get yourself back to A1 condition mate there is supposed to be a shortage of class 1 drivers and they are looking for elderly old “gits” like you and me to man the ship, now if only I could get in the cab and find summat with a “proper” gearbox I might just turn up but only rope and sheeted traffic please I wouldn’t know how to go on with a modern thingy.
thanks harry long retired.

Good evening was the site down or was it a case of an alcohol induced trance which was causing the problems as I did not attempt to log in until this evening as I was otherwise engaged   and the manageress as given instructions to reduce my intake of medicine :unamused: as on holiday the beer was very gassy so I had to resort to drinking " Glen Fiddich " most of the time just to be social-able of cause but I put a brave face on and struggled through   and having a quiet night in tonight. :stuck_out_tongue:
cheers Johnnie

Hi Johnnie,
The site was down for a few hours. It came back early afternoon.I can’t possibly comment on the alcohol levels of individual members   .
Cheers Dave.

Talking of whisky,I’m sampling a nice dram from Campeltown called Hazelburn and I’ve got a bottle of Springbank and Longrow to go at yet.

Well chaps, Im just enjoying a family get together, for the new year , had a lovely meal, & ive just retired to the conservetry to enjoy some malts, they might join me, when Ive finished my King Edward Imperial, its only this time of the year I do this, Duty frees of course,All the best for 2012, Regards Larry of the Glen Morangie.

I have had my ears blistered as I bought a bottle of Larry’s famous Glen Morangie and she said you have had some bottles bought me for Christmas ( not saying how many as I could come under siege from the good people of Durham ) and a certain person was taking the ■■■■ as I received a MINIATURE and a bloody thimble size glass set and she said it will be fine to have a whisky out when on the computer I nearly had a bad turn but the proper sized bottle appeared a little later to my relief. I explained that a glass that size would be dangerous as I could drop it and do damage to the machine so back to my proper glass and alls well now. :unamused:
cheers Johnnie
