Sun Valley there is a name from the past, I remember they took over FMC chicken factory at Brackley, played football for them 1965/66 then I broke my wrist on my damage right hand, the Dr said to me don’t you think you should give up football before you can’t use your right hand altogether.

hiya,
Have loaded out of Bulmers on several occasions in the day it was all handball
and usually for Liverpool docks, a bit of a nightmare on a warm day the wasps
were everywhere and I always got lumbered with outside loading, pallets onto
the wagon yes but the product put on the flat and they take the pallets away.
thanks harry, long retired.
I often loaded out of Bulmers with a container for export to North America until I retired
earlier this year. I also regularly took a box to tip at Hereford with empty barrels from “ower” the pond. Strangely the shipping line never managed to marry the two loads togther. The Shippers often would ring me “en-route” and ask “quote” where are you Kevin? My reply was always the same, “quote” you know exactly where I am as you can see me on the tracker. The next question was, why are you on the A49 instead of using the motorway? My answer was, its the shortest and quickest route to Liverpool, this was usually a boy wonder in the traffic office who often said when challenged about a route “quote” geography is not my best subject!! Its no wonder I was glad to get away from them. Regards Kev.

As you have probably noticed from my previous posts Kev.A lot of their production has been move to Ledbury which is close to the M50.
Cheers Dave.

Dave, all the storage tanks at Bulmers are called after planets, Mars, Venus, etc, but i could never find out why that was. My own theory is some cider’s are rocket fuel and they launch you over the moon
My favourite is Westons Vintage its 8.5% magic!!! Newcastle Brown Ale is bottled at Hereford now, one of its nicknames in this area when my late dad was trying single handedly to keep the brewery afloat was “journey into space”.
Regards Kev.

hiya,
Another defunct brewery from this neck of the woods called Vaux’s also
did a brown ale in the same size bottle, and with the possibility of being
hung, drawn and quartered at the next “truckers do” I always drank the
Vaux’s brew, I found it wasn’t quite as sweet as Newky brown.
thanks harry, long retired.
Harry, I think you must be talking about Vaux Double Maxim, it was a very good drink, another NE firm as you say now defunct. A great pity. Regards Kev.

Back in the 60’s and 70’s there was Forest brown ale that was sold in half pint bottles this way.I think it was brewed by West Country Breweries from Cheltenham.Don’t know if any of you chaps ever tasted that.It was a nice drink.
Cheers Dave.

malt too many.

Watney’s used to do a palletable brown ale in the 50’s and a nice stout, I still was not over the moon with Red Barrel.

I have found out who made Forest Brown.I got it wrong before. It was brewed by Whitbread who also sold bottled Mann’s which is still around.
Cheers Dave.
hiya,
There was a brewery in Dudley, they brewed some awful
gear luckily the Labour club only sold North East beer a
brew made at the Federation brewery in Gateshead and
the Brummies went for it in a big way the place was always
chocker with locals and Glendenning drivers.
thanks harry, long retired.

Hi Harry,
A few years ago a mate of mine gave me some cans of Crucial Brew lager which was canned in Hereford at Bulmers and mainly exported to the West Indies. This stuff was over 8%. It was some serious stuff.I drank a couple of cans and gave another can to drink and offered him another which he declined. It was some serious potent stuff. The best use of that would be to drink it if you had worms. It would certainly kill them. They are welcome to it in the West Indies.
Cheers Dave.

hiya,
When in the Far East (Malaya) the beer of the forces was Tiger or Anchor,
Tiger was the drink of the “old sweats” and Anchor was an equally pleasant
drink but not quite so potent, that Tiger could certainly knock you down if
you had a drop too much it was in pint bottles and believe me you couldn’t
drink much of it, I have been left incapable of doing my duties on more than
one occasion with loss of pay as a result and a spell of confined to barracks
for my trouble, not that there was anywhere to go and being a driver I was
rarely in the camp anyway and the pay was rubbish for a national serviceman
anyway and there was always one of the lads getting a few bob sent from home.
thanks harry, long retired.

Well, you fellas from t’North East might not have been able to manage much, but us lads from Yorkshire KNOW how to sup, we’d have helped you out and showed you HOW to sup decent ale.
.
.
.
Only joking Harry.
Hi Harry, Yes that TIGER was potent stuff . like you -travelling around away from camp (no naafi) we had to buy it ( amongst other desirables) in the kampong cafes -it was more expensive and stronger still .it got many a squaddie into trouble though i will admit you northerners could handle it better than us southerners ! toshboy
Now I wonder if you lads remember that pub on the A1 it was done up like a austrian or swiss chalet the lager they served was vile, and weak as winkle ■■■■.
hiya,
Remember it well Norm it sure did stand out, but where it was
I haven’t a clue as I said have seen it and at one time being a
regular user of The Great North Road I’ve passed the place lots
of times but never been in so can’t say what the beers like.I’ll
bet there’s someone on here who knows exactly where it is.
thanks harry, long retired.
