Thanks oxo3 for showing the photo of the Chris Lewis & Son Daf. I used to be the Parts Rep for the main dealers in those days. North West Truck Engineering.I used to supply the parts for this truck. Arthur at A & M Engineering at Bank Top Ind Est at St Martins used to carry many of the repairs. also on the “Welsh run” around Oswestry in those days, with a fully stocked mobile stores / parts van used to be Cadwalladers and D,H,Yarwood. Good times!.
regards,
John.
Hello John, Have not spoke to you in years, Hope you are well. You also used to supply parts for our old Fodens (Area), By the way Chris is still running a Foden.
Nev
Hi Nev,
Thanks for your reply. Sorry, but I can’t place you.
You might have me confused with someone else. I did the repping job with NWT in the mid-eighties, but didn’t go over to Foden until 1989.
I only covered the North Wales area for Foden after they’d shut the depot down in the “Truck & Bus” yard at Llay, but absolutely loved every minute of it.
Prior to that I’d been selling Foden parts in Staffs / Cheshire, plus Shrewsbury / Telford areas.
I’m guessing from the Area pics I’ve seen on here (S39), that it was before my time, though I served my apprentiship with Fodens back in the Haulmaster / Fleetmaster days.
The last time that I was out working in your lovely area, was to price up the parts for an accident damaged Foden Alpha at Perry’s which were now at St Martins, not Gobowen as I had remembered them.
On the Daf job I also used to sell parts to Richard Edwards at Sarn Garage, Powys Transport at Trewern, D,R, Jebb and Sons of Halfway House (used to live there when I was a baby).
Best regards,
John.

290 volvo, New to ETC Group Ellesmere then purchaced by W T Hurdsman & Sons in Feb 1981, The old Atki belonged to Kem Transport before takeover by Hurdsmans in 1980.
Hi Nev, Just a quick email to let you know that I phoned Chris Lewis a couple of days ago to let him know about the photo of his Daf.
He seemed to know exactly who you were and said he’s going to take a look.
Will you be at the Oswestry Vintage Rally next weekend?.
I’m hoping to be there with my trade stand selling workshop tools and consumables. I’m hoping to meet up with Chris there, it would be nice if you could come along too.
Regards,
John.
Hello John, Yes will be taking my ERF.will call and meet you,
Nev
Hi Nev,
I’m assuming that your ERF is the smart North Shropshire one?. I’ve never seen it at a rally, but it looks really good on here if that’s the one.
I’ll have to get my entry form sent back as soon as it arrives here.
I’ll have a blue / cream gazebo with a blue and white LDV Convoy parked behind it. “GARAGE & TRANSPORT SUPPLIES”
Come and say hello,it’ll be nice to have a chat.
best regards,
John.
HI oxo liked the shot of the Herdsman F88 . Was the Kem transport Atkinson the 6 wheel bulker Herdsman ran and was Kem transport the same as the Leominster operation regards Kit
Hello, Yes it was the same firm, The old atki was a 6 wheeler double drive with a Gardner 180 and hurdsmans put it on the criddle burgess contract running out of Oswestry & Eccleshall mainly on West Wales
a nice old roadtrain of Perrys of Gobowen
Hi Oxo thanks 4 the info concerning Herdsmans Atki .Didnt they have an artic as well ? hauling out of ETC .
Have you a photo of thier 140 Scania used to see this loaded with steel bars .Would this have been out of Brymbo?
Regards Kit
Hello again, Hurdsman took over ETC Group transport in 1981 and did there transport to 1996 and I have had there contract since then, The steel bars were out of Brymbo and mainly delivered to Midlands & South Wales . There is a picture of the 140 on page three of this thread with myself at a forest in N/Wales 1979. I will post some more of the 140 in the near future.
