Hiya Nev.
I was over in St Martins myself the night after the cattle wagon over turned last week, attending a family birthday meal at the Greyhound. I was asking if any of them knew where your yard was but as none of them have ever been involved in transport or are lorry mad like me, I wasn’t expecting them to really know. But was surprised to find my cousins sons knew you … the “Smouts.”
Daniel Smout was telling me he’s mates with your lad that had recently passed his HGV test, a small world eh !
I was trying to find out if they remembered EMC Transport but they couldn’t remember seeing them, their dad was asking if I meant Perry’s … but I didn’t know where Perry’s Garage was untill you mentioned QFS. I can remember seeing EMC lorries parked at a place on the Gobowen Rd, were QFS and EMC both at the same yard at different times ?
Another old transport firm you can put me right on, when travelling back too Manchester as a youngster I can remember seeing “red artic ERF/Foden flats” on the main Chirk - Pentre road in the late 60’s, would they have been the Dee Valley lorries you’ve shown ? … Paul.

Hi Tipit
EMC were based over at Park Hall until the mid nineties, when my old man parked up at Pentons yard. Here’s a pic from a Brands Hatch truck show (1992-ish), looks like Perrys Transconti is tucked behind the F88:
One in the yard, 1980:
V10 Merc, 1980
Anyone got any more?
Hi TheBryMan … not knowing that area very well I searched out Park Hall and Perry Garage on Google Map, and found it was Perry Garage on the St Martins Rd I’d passed about 1990 so it must have been QFS I’d seen. Hey that Google (Street View) is bloody marvelouse, I didn’t realize it covered everywhere around there till now, the only thing you can’t do with it is travel back in time, do those new houses stand on the site of the old Perry Garage now ?
What did QFS and EMC stand for ? was the Perry name never used on the trucks then ?
Paul.
there are new houseson the old perrys site at gobowan now street veiw has only been live round here for the last few weeks.
Hello Tipit, Glad you had good time in Greyhound,Yes i know all the Smout & Davies families, but i use the cross keys pub. Anyway im glad the Bryman has been on, His father was the son of the late Mr Ray Davies founder of Express motor carriers who,s depo was in the town (red sqaure) in the fifties & early sixties, At that time North shropshire bought there 8 wheelers off them, old AEC mamouth Majors, then later moving to parkall and did alot of continental. as for Perrys they have moved to the old colliery , St Martins next to myself. The only red lorries i can think of are dee valley that were local, but i can not recal them having ERF. Anyway next time you are in the area please call in, I will show you lots of photos of Dee Valley fodens & sentinals that have not been seen, ive only shown to a few visitors, I would put some 50s & 60s on, but cannot get any locals interested in posting any photos.
