Hi Kev there has been no mention about Alcans Site at Fort William closing, have you heard anything ?, Regards Larry.

Hello Larry, I havn’t heard anything about Fort William, but the news from Lynemouth can’t help it. Do you remember the three trailers Alcan had for running
alumina powder to Fort William ? They were fitted with super singles which was very rare in the 70s, I had a slow puncture with one of these trailers at F/W.
No tyre company in Scotland at that time had a super single in stock and they all refused to repair it. In the end I ran back home with it, I had to stop

regularly to check the pressure but I got it back. ( good job it was back empty) regards Kev.

I Kev if i remember ATS got a tyre for it from Esso or Shell as they where the only ones at the time
running super singles, Mick (Beafeater) might remember as he was tyre fitting at the time for ATS.
He didnt fit it though a guy called warick did who was shall we say 1/4 the size of Mick  stop it brian dont laugh.
anyhoo mick used to drop down on the tyres with his knee to pop them on the rims, so warick looking at this tyre me and Peter ramsey are looking on as we did :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp:   starts to lube the loose wheel rim and tyre rim plenty of lube on it warick as we look on :sunglasses: :sunglasses: .
So he has one side on the rim and now just to get the other bead on the rim so we chirp in DO what mick does, so he gets on top of the tyre slipping and sliding jumps in the air down he comes     now with him being so little and light the tyre starts to slip over the rim but then stops and springs back flipping poor warick over and off, now if Peter and i had score cards it would have been two 10`s for artistic impression :sunglasses: :sunglasses:  .
Well poor Warick picked himself up off the floor and all he said was ,dont you two dare laugh to late
Peter and me where rolling on the floor      .
He wouldnt speak to use for a month or so after it, i wonder why  :unamused:  great guy just like all the crew in them days.

I worked a couple of months for Briggs Tyres on Millers Rd late 71 while I was waiting for my army training date to come up and we used to go to Esso at Shields and fit the Super Singles on the tandem tankers, sure they were early air ride too. The tyres were a bit beefier than they are now and took some welly to put on, tubeless tyres were just breaking through aswell and a big difference to the tyre fitters job. Esso also had Auto box Dodge four wheelers with the Allinson box in, all new stuff to me then. Franky.

i found this picture which was taken back in the seventies, the truck was driven by my uncle,
