A few pics from the Chester-Le-St Steam Fair I visited today, very hot but some very nice old goods vehicles on show. The static engine on the ERF was a McClaren of Leeds. The Routeman was a lovely restoration and the Leyland Beaver. A very good example of one of the many Steam Tractors was the Foden. Franky.
Great stuff Geordielad, The ERF Looks like an ex Cooksons Lead Motor, Larry.

WOW!
Now that’s what I’m talking about!
You have made a great job of restoring the Sentinel steam lorry photograph back to life!
:You have increased the image
definition and depth of field not only of the Sentinel, but also of the whole photograph, you have brought the rear wheels and indeed the whole lorry out of the mists of the fading,
everything is clearer including the lorry in the background. Whisperingsmith, thank you very much
NOTE:Currie & Company had at least one other Sentinel DG steam lorry:-
Sentinel DG6,Undertype,Flat-Bodied,11-Ton Legal Payload,6x4,Steam Lorry,W-E-C No.7279,TN 7293,3-1928,Currie & Co,Newcastle-Upon-Tyne. No photograph currently known to me.

Joe Lee’s Trader is a memory of the past. Always remember it parked up outside the pub on right hand side going out of Birtley when going to Newcastle on Saturday or Sundays

You were right there, Tyneside
When we bought out Fred Johnson’s removals business in Durham in the early 60s amongst the staff that transferred to us was Geoff Pye then in his 30s. Geoff lived in Birtley and knew Joe Lee. We moved everything from Durham to Spennymoor and so Geoff was then based at Spennymoor, and in those days travelling from Birtley to Spennymoor (Almost every day as Geoff didn’t do too much long distance work at first) seemed quite a journey in those days especially as he travelled by bus, and being excellent doing removals we never expected him to stay with us but he did. I suppose Joe Lee must have been a small business never needing any staff. But Geoff stayed with us about 30 years and after we closed I employed him until he retired.
Once again Thank you fr finding such good photos.
Here’s some more old photos. I believe the Volvo was new to Sidle Cook. Does anyone remember Caladon, used to see them quite a bit years ago, don’t know where they were from.

Looks like Broxburn (West Lothian) on the door.
