Well Servo88 I remember Wilfie Whites Transport, I don’t know any of his drivers in the photo, I did know some of them in the 60s But alas no names come to mind, I used to get return loads off them at their London office on a regular basis, It was allways fruit off the docks in London, For the Newcastle fruit Market which of course was in Newcastle in those long gone days, Regards Larry.

Hiya,
Larry, was in the new fruit market the morning it opened on “The Valley” I was
the third in line to go in with a load of tomato’s from Shoreham I’d overnighted
at the cafe and digs that used to be at Croxdale I would have been on for W H
Bowker from Blackburn in those days, little knowing I’d be living in and driving
for North East hauliers at that time.

Hi servo88 I know some of the faces but could not put names to them, they were bought by John Crow and the name became Crow’s Tarnsport [1971]] Ltd .
The only photo l have seen was the one at Kate’s Cabin .
crowbar

Hi crowbar the one on the right in the tee shirt was a driver called Peter Nesbitt, the other lad in the tee shirt was one of the White,s sons called Morris. Front row in the grey was a fitter called Stephenson, carnt think of his first name. A drivers name that i remember from them days was Clubby Robson. regards servo

This was the greenmarket in the 60s Harry,Regards Larry.

Started Driving for Barkers Fruit & Veg Annfield Plain 1969, not sure but I might have got the tailend of the old market, but loved the new one after loading Breakfast then off round the Schools & Hospitals of the North East in my 1965 Thames Trader 2ton 19cwt & so many pds just under 3t so could drive 19yr old. Tatie sacks over the bonnet keep it a bit quieter a far cry from the auto merc I`l be off to Farnboro with in the morning.

Hiya,
Never did a lot in the Newcastle area but do remember on a couple of occasions
delivering to a wholesale grocer near the Greenmarket about a ton of Lancashire
cheese, I would have been doing for W J Riding at that time then it would have to
be en-route to Teesside to tip the rest and and re-load for all points West, that is
way back in the 60s, you never ran empty with Riding’s they made sure of that.

Great photo Larry. Love the chrome bumpers, they weren’t the same with the black plastic wraparounds. I had a 1967 E reg MGBGT. I loved it. It would sit at almost 90 at 4,000rpm in those pre camera days for hour after hour.

The big ends rattled for a second or two on start up until the oil got round, but that didn’t affect it, still very reliable!

John.
