Hi servo 88
Nice to see your old photo’s keep them coming, my interest in lorries began as a child as my dad worked for Redmires although he worked in the office, some days I would go and meet him at the office and walk home with him but I was fascinated by the tipper trucks in the yard and it made realise when I was old enough that’s what I wanted to do. my dad unfortunately died when I was only nine years old three years later my mother remarried another accountant who lived in Newcastle so it was decided the extended family would move to a halfway distance between Wolsingham and Newcastle so that’s how I ended up in Consett.
After settling down I started to explore my new surroundings it was not long before I discovered both Siddle C Cook and J R Young I spent the majority of my time wandering around Cookies taking photo’s until one day a driver asked me if I wanted to go for a ride in his lorry, so with the company’s permission Saturdays and school were spent in Guys, Scammells, A.E.C., Leylands, Atkinsons, Seddons and newish to the british market Volvo F86’S and F88’S. These ride outs lasted about two years then a hitch hiker was killed in a Tayforth vehicle else where in the country I then started going with Youngy’s but they also put a stop to strangers travelling in their vehicles after that and then I went with old Harry who worked for Mike Hodgson when he operated a Bedford KM flat on Marley tile work out of Ebchester, this was before the introduction of hiab’s so it was all handballed on/off they had special gangs loading at the works but at some of destinations there was no one around so I had to jump on the back and help unload starting at two tiles at a time and ending up at five a time.
Then at the age of sixteen I left school on the Friday and started work on the Monday for local haulage and removal man G. N. Ridley and for the last 38 years have spent most of my time driving although along the way I have had a few medical problems but that’s another story.
I am currently on the sick after a cancerous tumour was discovered back in the middle of last year, I have been off work since August 2014 and am still undergoing treatment but one day I hope to return to work. regards prattman.

Reg BPY 15B.Dad was at the pub having a pint nowt fresh there haha.He said the limestone dust made him thirstydoing the same with the TK thats when he was at Corbetts Carriers, he blamed the coal dust as well
This 8 wheeler Foden was one of Corbets, Then Golightleys took them over, I can also remember Corbets having an 8 wheeler Guy Tipper, I cant remember the drivers name but he quite often parked up at Lawsons café at Londonderry 50/60 era, Regards Larry.

Hi Larry thats the man he used to talk to Dave Wilson on the CB, Dave started up with a volvo then moved to a brand new scania.Had the early bird painted on the front, we were at the truck show at Kelvin Hall Glasgow and Dougie was there, thats years ago.If you see him mention my dads name Bill Robson, im sure he,l have some tales to tell you.regards servo88
Hi Prattman can you remember the big photo on the office wall of the redmires fleet in front of the hoppers, and seeing the foden steam traction engine parked in the garage . Did John Binks work with your dad. regards servo
Hi servo 88
I am not very good at remembering names so names you mentioned don’t ring any bells with me nor can I remember the photo in the office I can remember the steam engine being at Wolsingham show next to a new Foden chassis in the early 60’s I have a b & w photo somewhere I will try and dig it out. regards prattman.
Hi servo 88,
I have found some photo’s of Mike Hodgson,s first Bedford KM followed by his second one, the guy in the white overalls is old Harry Johnson and the the other lad is a young looking Richie Keeler I lost touch with both of them once I started work I know Ritchie stayed with Hodgson and then when Gallachers took them over he transferred over as well. I saw him in the local supermarket about ten years ago and he told me his was on the sick after doing his back when he fell off the back of a high load. You also mention Dave Wilson ‘Early Bird’ I presume this is who you mean these are the only photo’s I have got of any of his trucks. regards prattman.
