Back to Norwood Transport, The Ozzie you are referring to was Ozzie Hanmer and sadly he died last year,he worked for Norwood with Brian Hogarth, Angus Crozier and Jessie from Acomb and a few more, not sure how many they had their as it wasn’t that big a place. My mate Jimmy Blackburn asked me to say hello to everyone for him as Jim hasn’t a computer.

Nice to see a pic of Phil Webster’s Merc, I thought I’d seen a MAN outfit the other day belonging to him. Me and Phil went to school together and when I left school 1968 and got the Apprentice Fitter job at Alfie Ellis they told me another lad from my school also had a job, I was chuffed to see it was Phil when we started Monday morning and about two weeks later another mate Ritchie Hewitt started there too, we had some good laughs in the 18 months or so we were there and then went our separate ways. Ritchie went to Rutherford Brothers and Phil to Turk Plant Hire where he stayed involved with plant since then. After my stint in the Army 1980 and now working at Van Hee Phil pulled in the yard with an old D Series he’d bought, moving Forklifts and small plant about, we had a good chat and he was determined to make a go of it and to be honest he must be one of the longest surviving small transport companies that started early Eighties and is still going. Lovely lad too, must call in and see him some day, I never saw Ritchie again after leaving Ellis’s, I’d love to know what he got up to, happy days. Franky.
Kenny, I think your looking for Kenny Smith. Also remember Geordie Leanard hope that’s spelt correct. Also remember Nigel and like you can,t remember his second name either. Think he might of been at Wrighty’s with you.

Jackie had a impressive Fleet at one point i can recall at least two 111s and maybe a 141 and a 112 or maybe two its long ago plus at least one 142 and the two shunters witch were a daycab 110 this ended up in Barry Emerys minus its cab and the other shunter was a Atki Borderer.I recall even the cage trailers for the pipes were always painted up smart as well The last time i saw jackies last unit it was in Kevin Dixons in 2006.I have posted a pic but sorry about the quality as i dont have a scanner.
I remember when he ran under his own name (same livery) and pulled for C B Chastneys when they were still in Sunderland. When he became Whitstage he had a LHD Scania 141 (V reg) that looked like it started life in the Netherlands. He had 2 142s Y and A reg, all of them used to pull paper out of Sunderland on a Sunday afternoon. Looked quite impressive then as he always had plenty of marker lights around the cabs back then and they didn’t hang about.
On a different note does anyone remember W S Winter from Houghton le Spring, had a couple of Scanias (111) and an Atki Borderer?
