Hiya to all you lads up there in the east.Maybe just maybe someone will know.
I was told many years ago that Elldis transport witch may I say have some tidy lorries.
was the son of Sidlle Transport is it true■■?
GUESTY44.

Not the son but it is Sidle backwards sorry cant remember all the details of how it came about

As far as I can remember It wasn’t long after the drivers strike, & Geophry Cook is the man in charge, ■■?, Regards Larry.

Yes Larry thanks that is how I was told that the father reversed the name’
somebody out there will know I’m sure.
GUESTY44

Ive been racking the old cells, & Im sure it was 1971 when Elldis Transport fired up, & of course its nice to see that they are still going in these difficult times in the haulage game with all the red tape & regulations invented by some numptees, Of course this is just my opinion, Regards Larry.

hi lads & guesty44, Alfie Ellis started up a company, they called it norwood transport, about 1970, ran a half a dozen of volvo f88, colour scheme was red,he sold that outfit to geoffrey cook who change the name to elddis transport, and as they say the rest is history, bumper

I didn’t know about the Alfie Ellis, Elddis connection Bumper, I wondered if Ellis had started somewhere else when he sold out to Crows, I know he had a salesroom on New Bridge St selling flash motors. I would have left Ellis’s about 69 I think, and went to AEC Dealers Hodgsons and everything finished at Ellis’s yard in Coach Lane not long after. We had just got a new ■■■■■■■ GUY Big J when the rumours started about selling out. I presume then those early F88’s Elddis had were Norwoods motors! Seems Norwood didn’t last very long either then. Cheers Franky.

Cheers Jim, yeah I can remember something about him having a place at Corbridge. Geordie Collis might know a bit more, if he’s at the next do I’ll ask him, I’ll have to get to the next one I missed the last few with working. Can you remember Big John who drove for Elddis, he was at Ellis too. I went into the toilets in Normans for a wash one night and he was sitting on the throne, door wide open pants around his ankles, ‘Ah reet Young’n’, ‘well I was John before I came in here’! Priceless. Hope your keeping well mate, Franky.

i was only in my twentys and got to know some drivers well ,there was one called tommy who really took me under his wing, the job revolved in round the best place to get a good pint ,i think there were 3 f10 and rest were fls ,all were good lads

Jackie had a impressive Fleet at one point i can recall at least two 111s and maybe a 141 and a 112 or maybe two its long ago plus at least one 142 and the two shunters witch were a daycab 110 this ended up in Barry Emerys minus its cab and the other shunter was a Atki Borderer.I recall even the cage trailers for the pipes were always painted up smart as well The last time i saw jackies last unit it was in Kevin Dixons in 2006.I have posted a pic but sorry about the quality as i dont have a scanner.

I think Norwood transport had their depot in Corbridge where the club is now and I am not sure but I think John Sproat was transport manager.

Some of Alex Smiles (R.I.P) trucks from the mid 90’s onwards.regards prattman.

Jacky Copeland had some canny hosses but you needed them, he also had a few characters working for him Joe Geary , Wardy, Kenny & one or 2 others but the grey cells wont work Kennys surname gone as well but somebody on here will come up with it imupforit / Alan possibly.
