Aye its Jimmy Riches, I bought my first Leyland off him when he was at Lex Tillitsons at Hull, He was only there a short while, & our first new Leyland Roadtrain was also from Jimmy then at Blaydon, He lives at Cramlington now I believe & still works a day or two at the valley for MAN, Regards Larry.

I will get the hang of it Larry, the photo was taken when my father,Jackie johnston was Forman fitter at shorts. I have more of my grandfather and dad but need to take them from a disc first.keith

I only new your dad briefly, I went to Shorties in 1968, The fitter was called Ronnie Tate, & his main sidekick was Bob Dale, Ronnie left & Sean Hannah got his job, They were a decent outfit to work for in those days, Look forward to seeing the old photos when you get them sorted out, Regards Larry.

I mentioned about a fortnight ago about taking some photo’s of one of McPhees lorries at Leadgate I have just come across them they did work out but they are not brilliant but I have decided to post them anyway and also one of Wilds E.R.F’s this firm took McPhees over, is that right ?
regards prattman.

Hi Pratman , I remember them getting the Scanias, They used some of them on their night trunk to Wolverhampton there & back in a shift, I don’t know if The Wild group took them over, But I do know that group had Smiles for Miles depot at Blucher for a while after Smiles packed in, Regards Larry.

hi lads,Mcphee’s scania 110 were worked 24hr, day and night trunk to brum depot & back, average mileage for the year was 250.000, Mcphee went in voluntary liquidation, thats when the wild group took them over, moved from the quayside to smiles yard at blutcher, but they didn’t last long in the northeast, moved everything to the stoke depot, bumper

Great photo Keith, Are you now at Jakeys ■■?, Regards Larry.

Here’s one of Bank House Motors someone mention on an earlier page. Yes Larry I am on for Jakeys.

Looks like Bank House just loaded out of Hebburn used to do a bit of that when I was on for Gallacher. One trip brought a 60ft crane up from Sandwhich Kent when tipping at Hebburn using there little mobile he just got it off past the cab when oops the mobile went up off its back wheels with the driver having his nose pressing on the windscreen could have been serious but it was funny to watch when you thought about it after.
