Great stuff I remember Malcom driving a Dodge Artic, Delivering to Lloyd Street in Rutherglen, To J & R Wrights depot next door to British Ropes, This was in the 60s, I drove a Dodge Artic in those days for Baxters Road Services, JTN 222.D, With a 635 NA Perkins engine, Is Malcom still about ?, Regards Larry.

Malcolm is still around,I have a photo of that Dodge but not on computer, but it was a one like this,it had a ■■■■■■■ V8 I think(KNL863E).I know they had a 4 wheeler Dodge GTY 882D with a ■■■■■■■ V8 in.

Hello B series,
Can remember loading and tipping at a few places and parking up with a Pentleton and Hare driver called Joe Lamb [RIP] who drove a Bedford KM artic with a short trailer on,he was a hard worker and would always give you a hand with your ropes and sheets as most drivers did in them days.
At the time i was driving a Guy Warrior 8w for Fergusons.

Regards

F Troop.

Joe got the 1st brand new 110 see photo.I think he also drove the AEC Mercury before that see photo.

Hi Little ha ba,I still have the cutting from the RHA roadway magazine with HTY 471N standing on the causeway loaded with the mead. They were plastics 5 gallon drums and they were collected every Friday and the orders were split across the loads at Felton to go to there various destinations. The 5 gallon drums used to go to the likes of Caldicot Castle where medieval banquets were all the rage then.I can remember drivers bringing back the empties and filling empty pop bottles, thermos flasks owt they could get their hands on to cowp the dregs into.

The photo took of the Scania was at the 1st row at Ellington opposite Ellington Pit.
They did quite a bit of return work of flour out of Liverpool and dog biscuits out of Birkenhead.

I can remember Barney Crewther from Rothbury who was the shunter loading flour OFF THE SHUTE onto pallets at the Spillers mill on the Quayside. The dog biscuits were loaded out of the Tyne Tunnel trading Estate where Spillers had their warehouse, the sheets used were called biscuit sheets because they would cover 2 pallet high loads and they usually went to Wisbech and Haydock.

If I can remember rightly Joe Lamb drove John Bink’s F7 artic after P+H.
Used to load him regularly in various collieries around the northeast.
RIP Joe …

I Larry you were right about the LAD Dodges they had 2, ACU???B I would have to ask Malcolm the full reg No.they were brand new and totally knackered at 3 years old.I can remember Malcolm doing a deal with FITTIE(Norman Fitt from Coxhoe)to trade one of the Dodges for a 40 foot trailer(unheard of those days as 33 foot was a long trailer)it was a Carrimore,he brought it to Felton with an F86 dropped it off and loaded the F86 onto the Dodge to return to Coxhoe.Little did he know that the 2 speed axle was u/s and locked in high with a block of wood the batteries where u/s and the Dodge had been ticking over for best part of the morning. As I say it was knackered. The next day Fittie rang up and wanted the trailer back(take it he realized he had part exd a pup)too late the trailer was in bits…1st load was from Proctor and Gamble,City Road and got as far as Felling where the pit was(now the car park for the Angel)and it broke its neck, guess what?the 33 foot single axle Scammell trailer was sent down to tranship the load (handball them days),so there you go there wernt any real winners in the end.

The picture shows the loading dock to the left of the picture the the F86 was loaded from

I can remember one of the Dodges having a plate on the front of the cab say The Hill Top Cafe or Bust, The cafe was on the A1 at the Worksop split. Coming Northbound you had to go up a steepish concrete ramp to get into the lorry park & exited back onto the A 1 next to A Garage that did recovery work, Of course its all gone now,But plenty of happy mems about those good old days, P.S, the driver that nicked the radio was from the toon, & drove for a well known Newcastle firm, Shame on him the nugget, Regards Larry.

Great photos B series. Remember seeing the 2 Bseries ERF standing in the old yard, on the loading dock shining in the sun, waiting to go on the road for about 3 week when new.The first ERF,s i had seen with the new 10 stud wheel trims, as you know this is something that has stuck in my mind for 35 years. Always looked forward to going through Felton as a child to see what was in P+H’s yard, loved the livery! Great memories.
