Alright lads. just like to say great topic. been checking this out for a little while now. My dad((Mick todd) is an ex artic driver. he started at sheperds offshore and moved to waughes on whitley road with a few other lads (Big John lowes, ernie moy, Davie blyth, Martin, Eric burns.) He then left to go work at Securico Omega logistics which was based down in Huntingdon but he used to park his unit down in the team valley depot. He then Left and went to ramage transport and has been there ever since but just drives the sprinter vans now.

Ps that picture of Sheperds Offshore. is that Sammy Livermore?

The name big John Lowes, is he still about I wonder he had his own motors some years ago along with another lad Gordie Melrose (RIP), they used Jimmys Cafe on St Lawrence Rd, As their office for work, along with The late Albert Greenwood, & Lofty Marshall the North Shields Millionare, Plus The Big Yin Norman Barwick, Happy long gone days Im afraid, Regards Larry.

An unusual TM any ideas what it was used for and unusual wheelbase stretched 4x4 possibly, great pic

Looking at the front axle it doesnt look like it IMO, Regards Larry.

Your right Larry, its 4x2 but unusual wheelbase and those super singles, would be interested in what it was used for thanks for replying

Well going of the work that Sunters used to undertake, all the idivisable stuff they did I think it may have attended various movements of such loads requiring big timber balks etc as it seems to by loaded with & of course the Hiab for lifting them etc, Regards Larry.

Larry, John Lowes was at one of our “do’s” recently, i’ll look through my photo’s to see if i’ve got a shot of him. I’m not very hopefull though as I think I would have posted it if I had one. Regards Kev.

Hi All
My name is Stephen Taylor I worked for Stiller first then cos Stillers was laying off got loaned to Sayers at Catterick Bridge and then John Lyon (and Harry) from Patrick Brompton, sayers was a Bedford sleeper on Milk and Continental sherry but John Lyon was anywhere with a Scania 110 then 111, then 141. Good Job good money but I saw the light and moved on from driving. Good Days, Sayer was a bit of a matchstick company to keep your eyes open but the money was good :frowning:
