hiya,
Waving to strangers is normal isn’t it  I do it all the time, it’s age related
it is on a par with talking to one’s self which I also do, I’ve not started to get
replies from myself yet but a much more ancient chap I know has advised me
to make sure I pull my collar up when walking about because if you’re seen to
be conversing with yourself and answering yourself you’re a candidate for the
guys in white coats and they are likely to whip you away, by the way I’ve have
begun to consider myself the most intelligent person I know which is getting a
bit near borderline dangerous.
thanks harry, long retired.

I can recommend this for a great day out. I usually go down on my classic motorbike. If you go head for Brough where there’s plenty of free parking then take a vintage bus ride to Kirby Stephen. There’s usually plenty of old wagons there as well.

By the way these are due out at the end of this month.

Yes but the difference is that they are not having good conversations with themselves, just listening to rubbish

I agree with you Jim about the Bush Bends, that bit of road was a nightmare especially in winter. Another bad stretch was the bit of road at Whitechapel Sawmill,(by the big monkey puzzle tree) I got stuck there one day after a large breadvan tried to muscle through as a car heading west and climbing the hill ,(at one time as you know the unwritten rule was hill climbers were given priority). Anyway the outcome was the donkey in the breadvan swerved and drove up the bankside and overturned onto the car. We all thought the car driver was dead but he had been pushed across the cab when the roof of his car was squashed, but we managed to get him out without even a scratch !!! This was in the days before seatbelts were compulsory, I think he would have been dead otherwise. Regards Kev.

Hi lads, I have had some near misses along by Whitechapel wood heading east early morning against the rising sun in the days when I regurlarly met Cawthorn Sinclairs heading west with wide plates sticking over both sides of their platforms, you couln’t see them coming sometimes and not a lot of room for manoevre along that section. More good luck than good management.
Cheers Leyland 600.

L600, drivers are always complaining about the A69, and they are correct, it does need upgrading to a dual carraigeway, but it is a ■■■■ sight better than it was when I first started using it in the sixties. I have to say though, I would turn the clock back now if I could as the job was easier then than it is now. Ps that is taking into account the handball, lack of heating, and other improvements■■? on top of that I think we had the respect of the general public, which we do not have now. IMO we have only ourselves to blame for that. Regards Kev.

Here’s a pic I found in an old SAFC football programme when John Dee sponsored the match.

Aye Kevmac I was refering to the mid to late 1960s when I was operating a Mickey Mouse S21 cabbed Foden 8 wheeler running over to the North East regularly. You are perfectly right in what you say they were better days then with a lot less regulation and you could get on with the job.
Cheers Leyland 600.
