Land rovers have been for used as commercial vehicles for years, and if not enough peole have interest in them and dont post on the thread it will soon drop of the page and out of sight
i’ve seen a lot worse commenting on here so why are you on my case?
becuase I cant understand why if you have no interest in the thread you chose to comment on it? Some folks are enjoying it and taking a full part, those with no interest move onto threads they do enjoy. Everyones happy and no drama’s… I simply fail to understand why you are making such an issue of it.

I think Landover’s have a place on here as a lot of hauliers had them as service motors, some fitted with a crane, they did a stirring service for many drivers, I broke down on the East India dock road with an old six wheel tipper well over loaded with iron ore clutch had given up, rang the boss he said he would get some one out, fifteen minutes later a brake down truck turns up, a short wheelbase LR, no sweat says the fitter I’ll tow you in, no bar or chain just a length of old barge rope, couples me up and after a lot of grunting and clouds of black smoke off we went, he towed me for about five miles back to his yard, that LR was a real hero. Always said I’ll have one, one day and I have I have a 2 series Discovery costing me a small fortune to maintain but I love that old motor, and wont part with it.

Old Sandlovers.
And if Jack Kershaw from Oldham is still wondering whatever happened to that small sheet which was supplied by Greens Tarpaulins of Rossendale back in 1975, well Jack you know now .

Do you not think that Landrovers can be used for commercial purposes? I am sure there a lot in the farming community as a start who would disagree with you over that statement. But, just in case you wish to dismiss them, how about some other ‘commercially used’ LRs.
They’re only allowed to draw-bar them on the field but when they are on the road they hitch them up to the fifth wheel.
I was just thinking the other day about those 5th wheel conversions. I used to see them out and about when I was living up North.
Although never big enough to be haulage vehicles in their own right, the Landrover has always been there on the periphery of the industry. It was actually the fact that haulage ran on diesel that prompted Rover to develop a diesel engine for the Landrover, released in 1957. Previously they had all been petrol.
Due to a few complications some years ago I found that the Series 3 2.25 L petrol Land Rover I had was very capable of towing 6t on road on a tri-axle trailer. A while later I got to briefly tow a 10t bus but that was short distance and on the flat.
But I’m into diesels now, so that would be the powerplant in the next LR I own. Although, saying that, the 4.2 supercharged V8 in a friends RR Classic does pull very well as well
The maximum towing weight for older Landrovers is a bit of an issue in itself, as the company only ever gave a “recommended towing weight” of two tons on older vehicles. Currently it is 3500KG with overrun brakes. 4000KG with coupled brakes.
