I was hauling for Tuckwells today, pulling out of the former Curtis pit at Oday Hill to their plant at Radley. They’re running it as a joint venture with Sheehans (who supply their recycled aggregates). Nice to see Tuckwells are going strong again (a lot of rumours they were shutting down a couple of years ago) new mixers, new wash plant at Oday and a new loading shovel at Radley.
They’re still a nice relaxed place to deliver to.

What was the name of the Old Boy in the weighbridge at Oday Hill? Going back 25+ years now, I used to do a bit of day work out of there on White Horse Contractors. Regards Chris
I can’t recall his name but he always reminded me of the actor, Sam Kydd. The loading shovel that was there when you went there is still there, and working as the back up machine. I’m back there tomorrow, will try and get some pictures of the the plant there.
Talking of Curtis, anyone recall JC Waste? The landfill side of Curtis, ran early FL dustcarts until Hales took them over. The landfill at Oday is closed now, McKennas’ subsoiled the clay capping several years ago.
I kept missing chances to photograph Tuckwells’ 8w Arocs mixer today, so one of their Axors will have to do.
A good old loading shovel. These were great machines, the bucket a perfect size for loading anything between a Transit tipper and an 8wheeler. I always found Volvo machines much much easier to guess how much was in the bucket than other makes. Two heaped buckets of sharp sand and a third level one would get you around 16t.
Family trip to Bloxham rally today, Mini Muckaway having a look at Bartons of Sibford Gowers’ Morris, in the livery of those that once hauled for Compton Buildings.
I wonder if Nathan is waiting with his tippers and machines and “RB1” to make a start on the new runway at Heathrow.Cheers Dennis.

Doubt it, Boris says that it isn’t happening.

Too busy Dennis, been driving a 360 loading myself near Leatherslade Farm at Oakley. Ring a bell? Just over the fence, was the Great Train Robbers’ hideout.
I haven’t found the missing money though.
