What was the name of the firm from Grendon Underwood that had Dark Red, lorries used to do alot of magazines , AEC’s I think, roping and sheeting. may have had some F88’s too.

they were called connel and griffin run by two partners brian Connell and brian griffin.i drove for them on a Volvo f88 290.we worked for timbetts and unigate delivering the unigate news to all the unigate dairys. also crendon concrete and London brick.

Not the best one to show as an example of the fleet, but the only one I’ve got.

Anyone on here worked for them? Advertising in Witney, good money too… :bulb:

Hi George,(BigG-Unit), hope you are well, a few more to your thread started coming up 6 years ago, this lot on the byways of Oxfordshire last week.
Oily

I know the Smiths driver very well. In fact he makes a great stunt double for Alf Garnett. Good old Pete James, one of the best blokes on Smiths. His lorry is immaculate. His language when “pressurised” is less so.

I was trying to read the number plate of the Earthline wagon. If it’s an 11 plate ending BFO then it’ll be Captain Chaos, a Shipton based driver. Nice old boy and not one of their “usual” drivers.

Seeing Oilys’ pics in Bloxham got me thinking; Have Bennies completely packed up? I know the tippers were axed along with sister company Barton Plants’ 8wheelers. David Einig runs several ex Barton tippers and a couple of Bennies last Scanias are still in the London area.

Some more photos from Tony Croxford “ginger”, Tonys Cruiser on the way back from Swindon , looks clean Tony .

Two more Rover drivers , ■■■■ and Barry, by the mount blanc tunnel .

Those Rover drivers going over the water in day cabs :open_mouth:

Hi Pete 62, I used to do the odd job for Dougal and Gavin both european and Milne, last saw them nearly 6 years ago before I moved Stateside, I was very surprised to see they no longer have the Milne contract, I thought that was a job for life, what happened?

Hi chazzer
I think the contract came up for renewal it was put out to tender and Gregory won it ,the last I heard is that Gregory have also lost the contract as well not sure who does the milne work now.

P & O have the Stewart Milne contract now

They must have been gutted when Milne put it out for tender, even more so when they did’nt get it but then you should’nt really put all your eggs in one basket, although the relationship they had with Milne should have counted for a lot, but then they were never going to be able to compete with the likes of Gregory and P & O. Sounds like Gregory did’nt do such a good job if its gone to P & O in such a short time but it’s too late for McBurnie even if they were offered the work back when you think of the start up costs involved.Shame cos there were some good drivers on there.

Hi Oily, Good to here from you & to see you are still on your travels. I’m doing ok now, had a rough 4 weeks a bit back with a chest infection, knocked me off my feet! Had a lot of changes through this year, several family members having health problems, which meant me doing loads of hospital & doctor trips, almost daily. Bit worrying when you think I’m the best of the bunch they have to rely on! :open_mouth: Very time consuming though, so not much chance of getting on here. Well, not to post anyway, but I still have a look in when I can, very briefly. I was amazed to see it was 6 years when I started this thread, so not surprising it slips off the front page a bit now. It’s great to see a few new posters every now & again, (plus, I suspect, one or two old 'un with new handles!) & the old faithful’s keep finding stuff to keep it alive, thanks to all of you for that. Think it was Bewick mentioned it seemed people were losing interest in posting on the forum generally & I must say I seem to have runs when I don’t find anything to say, but then a thread comes to life again for a while, which is great. I suppose there is only so much one can say on some things, but as long as someone fires it up again we are in with a chance. Thanks for your pics. from around the area, keeps it fresh in ya mind doesn’t it. I must vow to try to keep posting stuff, I must really make time, as from now. Thanks again to everyone for your contributions on this & other threads, I never tire of read them. :sunglasses: Cheers for now Big G-Unit.
