Old Firms in Oxford Area

I drove that old Merc for Andrew while his regular driver Pete was not allowed to drive for several months due to medical reasons in 2008. What has he replaced it with?

A Foden Alpha with 430 ■■■■■■■■ ex Longcliffe Lime. Restored from a practical shed by Pete, but I think Pete wanted the challenge!

P45 with a “short on work” note stuck to it delivered by Postman Pat this morning. Can’t say that was unexpected. Anyhow, interview with agency on Monday.

I’ve read somewhere (I think in a railway book) that Hardings’ had a yard in Eynsham on Wharf Road. Where Siemens Magnets are now. It was the shortlived sugerbeet and crop drying works between the wars, then a military depot during WW2 and Hardings took it over and removed the rail connection in the '50s. I expect Big G ambled past it with a Pannier tank a couple of times?

Spotted "the boy " with his new toy at Kardoss yesterday , had a chat etc . great truck , "keep on trucking "

A new experience starting tomorrow night; Multi drop, chilled for 6 nights…

After puttng the Witney Stone Co pictures on, I’ve been doing some groundwork for a mate for 2 days, part of the garden used to be the quarry. After demolishing an old rockery, I then spent a fun time jackhammering an old rock-face they left behind.

I think we spoke about this somewhere before Nathan, as I know my brother in law worked in a stores there for B M C or British Leyland, whatever guise it was in at the time! Not sure if it would have been ■■■■■■■ with that, can’t remember if we found out! Anyway, if the railway line was still working between '56 & '59 there’s a good chance I did. Great picture of the Transporter mate, but got me thinking, was that in B M C livery or am I mistaken!

Tbey certainly stored Morris cars in there at some point, George; I’ve spoken to people who remember seeing them stored there. Apparently the “Wharf” part of Wharf Road refers to one of the shortest canals ever built; Cassington Canal, you’dve passed over it o the railway. It only ran from the Thames along part of theRiver Evenlode. I think it came too late for canals and went bust.

Seen in St Albans last night. They can’t be fussy as the driver’d never done nights, multi drop or chilled before…

I spent today driving this automatic today around Rushden and Newport Pagnell. 12 hour shift so glad it didn’t have a gearstick.

how many drops did you have ?

curnock:
how many drops did you have ?

Nine I think, first three were supermarkets, three Co-Ops (why are there two of them in Newport Pagnell High Street?) and the others were various corner shops. Fastest to tip was ASDA and they have the biggest order. No messing about counting this and that which surprised me, given the stories you read on here. I enjoyed it; Strapping/setting up the frames in the back etc…Not something I can say I’ve done on tippers.
Fair play to Iceland in Rushden though, they counted the delivery for me so I could have a coffee and sort out the empties.

a muckawy truck is no good without the cb and yank plate .
