Better than the green one, I’ve discovered there’s more to life than (insert name) I liked Fresh Direct although nights were a pain with Callum shouting “Dad! Dad! Dad!” when I was asleep (or trying to sleep).
Had my induction with May Gurney this morning who do the West Oxon refuse contract, that seems a good place to work. Should be starting later this week according to agency, if not I’ll be at Warburtons’ again. Money on the dustcarts has gone up than what I was told before so even better.
It’s also within cycling distance of my house.
I am not sure that I could adapt to that type of work, changing trucks day in day out? I absolutely hated having someone elses while mine was off the road, used to book the day off rather than drive another man’s truck, but I suppose it is something that you eventually get used to and at least it pays the bill’s which is what you work for at the end of the day!
Pete.

I’d like something permanent Pete, but at least it’s work and it gives me experience of something other than tippers. Never thought I’d ever be using fridges and tail-lifts!
Hi Windrush , I was the same on Brs Oxford when I got on the road , I hated to use other peoples trucks and just the thought I someone using my truck made me think again when I was feeling unwell. We had a time when ever my truck was home for the night a dirty night trunker used mine for the night as it was very very clean had a cb in and me being a ex fitter for Brs made me have a no defect truck and trailer (a frame ),when I left the Habitat contract to go back on Arctics at the Oxford depot guys were wanting to take on my 3 year old Man as there own trucks were trashed within 18 months .Dont think I would last long on THE AGENCY . Good luck Nathan , what did your dad say about doing tailifts etc ?
Steve, Dad thinks it’s good to get work this time of year, and without experience of tail-lifts etc. Still want something permanent but this refuse job is on the doorstep, so hopefully wont need to buy a second car.
Hey Jakey, where you going for your kebabs now?

As said earlier on in this thread, I use to go down to Cannons at Milton as a kid riding with my Dad then reloading from Pickering foods, this was before the M40 etc and I remember we use to go a few different ways, one way was via this hill on a short bit of dual carraigway and a church sat up on a banking at the top . Can anyone tell me where this bit of road is please. As on the picture Ta

It’s Warmington hill on the old Warwick to Banbury rd, it was the main drag to Southampton from the Midlands then.

Cheers Trev, I d always got it in my head it was south of Banbury, but time as it is now you cant just pop off the motorway for a scenic route.
IIRC it was about 4mls? north of Banbury (A423?), a good many motors broke down right at the top where that photo was taken, many snapped half-shafts and rolled back into the bank by the church, I don’t think brakes were very good in reverse in those days .
I remember a chap rolling back on that hill and turning over a K series Dodge tipper !

I’ll don my anorak and say that there used to be a rope hauled railway somewhere in those hills behind, working an iron ore quarry. One of many that used to be in the area.

Pete.
Had the misfortune of being allocated this 7.5tonner today; A real comedown from the almost new Daf auto I had on Monday. I think every panel in the cab rattled at some point today. Top speed of only 53ish (the only 7.5t that is and I get it!)
I reported it as “not being able to pull your ■■■■■■■■ back…” to which I was told it’d recently had a new engine. This now takes the title of worst lorry I’ve ever driven. At least I could sleep across the twin passenger seats.

We are going to have to change your handle from “Muckaway” to “Breadman”,Nathan!!! IIRC we once had a driver from Blackpool that drove for us and his nickname was “Breadman”,but he had worked for Wonderloaf or similar as a roundsman and I had to give him 10 out of 10 for trying to get a start with us,he used to drive into the depot every other day after he’d finished his round, and he’d “bung” the traffic office bread and buns ect.We finally relented and started him on an 82 Scania,he did OK but he didn’t have the “makings” of a top man but he made up for this by his keeness to do whatever was asked of him.He ran out of a customer we had in Garstang from memory.Oh! by the by Nathan can you carry a tray of bread on your head ? No!,well you aint no breadman then ! Now how about this 8 wheeler tipper? That will do nicely Boss !! Hope you get a permanent start soon Nathan, best of luck Dennis.PS probably need a D8 CAT with Ripper to pull your ■■■■■■■■ back !!!
Been looking on jobcentre website, Dennis. There are a few more lorry driving jobs appearing, a little far from me but getting better. At least I get travelling money and it’s all experience.

Posted these way back on this thread.
Oily
After a quiet week, I got a night shift at FDs’ delivering to Wagomama restaurants in Croydon, Tooting, Kingston, Walton, Guildford and Windsor.
Thankfully the flag wasn’t flying at Windsor Castle as the pumptruck was protesting loudly.
