Great model George, how’d you make the tank?
Well I had a bit of a start, as the model was the milk tanker with the skinny round tank, so I used thin plasi card to form the oval sides, extending the length & leaving the fillers exposed & also adding one more. Scribed round it & cut out the tank ends & glued in place, getting a nice curve by trimming the tank sides back very slightly. Then cut the walk way out of slightly thicker plasti card & the ladder I cut from a length of plastic one I happened to have in a job lot of train stuff I bought at some time, making the hand rail from a paper clip! The decals are only paper ones my son made on the 'puter, but I have now got some acetate to make some, when he can find the time.
well, it’s way above me, all that proper clever stuff!
Other changes I made were to cut the front road springs back & add the spats to the front of the cab, to make it a Mk 2. I didn’t notice the rear mudguard at the time, so I might have a go at that at some stage & of course add that special Reg. number! I did have some pictures of the start of the project, but they fell by the wayside! on an old computer, although I expect the lad has stored them somewhere, so I’ll see if I can get them on at some stage. Mind you, we might have to move to the modelling thread!
I originally posted these on the Tipper Operators of the Cotswold thread but as an ex Oxfordshire O/D they’re probably more suited to be here. They’re obviously not from Oxfordshire but does anyone fancy driving one of these bad boys…

Hi everybody.
Ref. Radclive Transport. I was an owner driver on there in the 70s with an Atkinson Borderer. Ray Phillips was the Transport Manager there then. When they collapsed, I believe Ray bought a pub up north. The owner of Radclive was “Radclive Manor at Buckingham” and they where connected to Eurotrucks in Lokeren Belgium one of there drivers was Peter ? when Radclive finished he moved to Belgium and worked for Eurotrucks.
Ref. F.C. Bennett Thame. After several years with Radclive and the death of the old Aki I bought 2 Leyland Marathons. 1 went on to Interoute at Thame, Debby Chown was there then, the other I put on to F.C. Bennett at Thame, Roy ? was Transport Manager then, and Mr Mike Verran was Contracts Manager. When The BET Group took them over Mike Verran left them and went with Satchells Transport up the farm in Chinnor then Verran Freight was formed and is now still running.
The other Bennetts you saw in Youngs Portacabins had no connection with F.C.Bennett, they came from Boune End then lately Aylesbury.
Hi big ben , two drivers i knew on Bennets of Thame , was jock and Steve wright ! do recall them ? They were on the Atlet contract .
Yes richard it was a bitv early for me this morning , I had to go out as a porter today , saw your brother mike in Woodstock just as i was passing that working F88 in the traffic jam .

Chris, when you visit Cherrys, ask them what happened to the old Smiths Foden unit that used to be parked there. It was in Joe Deans’ colours.
Nathan, Roger said it was sold but he can’t remember who to, but he says he’s sure Richard knows but he wasn’t in that day, I gota take 1 of our wagons in there on Monday so I will ask Richard then.
Jakey, unfortunately unless you have extremely long arms you have to get out to tip the trailer…
One of Dave Tyes’ Hanson franchise wagons.

Hi Jakey. The only actual Bennetts driver I can Remember was Trevor he came from Aylesbury.
On a sad note, I haven’t seen it mentioned on here, my Mrs works at The Bull here in Charlbury, on Wednesday this week they had a funeral/wake booked, it was for Alan Cleaver of A.W. Cleaver Transport Didn’t know him personally, but maybe some of you did, but I think we all know the wagons! R.I.P.
Didn’t know Alan, but a good old firm been about for a while, very sad RIP Alan.
I saw one of his ex drivers coming out of Charlbury on Wednesday afternoon when I was delivering clay to Cornbury Park. Alan spent a fortune on his AEC tanker but ill health meant he didn’t get to enjoy it as much as he should have. I went to Cleavers’ yard to see it several years ago and he was going to take his grandkids to rallies in it.
Ameys had the job of taking the small engin that used to sit outside the railway station on the A338 Hanney road, I think, to it’s last resting place which was one of the industrial places on the West side of Grove airfield. I seem to remember a jet airoplane out there as well. Ameys also broke up the runway on the airfield. We used to have the job of either towing or carrying the old stone crusher about to new ‘projects’ The thing was always covered in dust and wasn’t very well maintained for moving on the road!
The Tramway engine is preserved at Didcot Railway Centre in it’s Wantage Tramway Co no 5 livery. Steam Railway mag abandoned an appeal last year to return it to steam but I don’t know why. I would guess the boiler’s not been changed since the Tramway days, but Didcot did have a long term idea of recreating the tramway with no 5 and a replica coach plus horse drawn tram.
There’s still an old jet on display on a plinth at Grove, possibly DeHavilland Vampire? It’s got twin tails…Talking of planes being stuffed and mounted, when 47 Air Despatch Squadron officially moves to Brize Norton from Lyneham, they’re bringing their mascot, a Dakota used during Operation Market Garden (Bridge too far mission).
I wonder if Ameys got any hassle from the ghostly airman of Grove airfield? He/it used to be a bit of a celebrity around there.
