Some good old pic’s there oiltreader   lets have the Ameys ones.

Yeah! wonderful Eddie, some lovely ol’ motors and long forgotten firms! That Mac Fisheries van would have been something like the set up of the one my dad did the milk collections on, cab wise, his would have been a flat. I think I may have said on here before, he would set the hand throttle and run alongside, in winter, to keep his feet warm! Seeing the Wards removal van just reminded me of another firm my dad worked for and that was Rainbows Removals, on the Abingdon road. As for the Banbury Buildings S type Bedford, they had a few of them on Tuckwells, late '50s, they were a bit harsh!
Does anyone have any history of Cowley Concrete? Who’s set up was it and did Dykes Bros. do anything out of there? Anyway great stuff chaps, keep finding 'em, they are truly wonderful ! :sunglasses:

HI BigG-Unit. Cowley Concrete was at Radley road Abingdon -they made all types of pre -stressed structures for the construction industry–the were bought out by AMEY who were able to expand the operation as well as supplying transport and aggregate etc also amey-chivers was set up there to supply pre fab housing .one large early contract was to supply the M4 Chiswick flyover with very large beams .For a while i was based there at the works----toshboy

Hello Nathan ,where ARE you getting these pics from absolute crackers–i feel as though its my birthday today -its like being reincarnated!!

BRS Kidlington -the result of Tommy Milehams being aquired due the nationalisation-Milehams had Bedfords galore (an east london silvertown firm) they done a lot out of cherwell cement works— but the ERF-- that was ex Tuckwells-an A licence takover and sent to milehams kidlington. this was the truck responsible for towing me over Shap in the snow one winter -i had a mk5 seddon artic at the time --one trip i shall never forget !----------------------------toshboy

Hi Oiltreader
Yes remember them .based in the Oxford covered market -on W C Amey i used to daywork regularly for them --collecting potatoes from local farms -delivering to the colleges and best of all unloading bananas out of rail trucks and taking them to a gas lit ripening store in st ebbes usually forgetting a few bunches under the passenger seat !!!----toshboy
