Tuckwells stone quarry at Hanborough was where Joslins’ yard is now…You can still see the stone faces. Not sure where in cassington their gravel pit was but possibly the fishing club lake between the speed camera and the bus stop. They dont dig at all now, not even buying in as dug from other companies; they collect whatever they need from us, Hills (soft sand), and Hansons. Not long ago, Tuckwells and Curtis were big players in Oxfordshire aggregate supplies (as were Sands and Gravels-RIP)
On the subject of quarries, a certain operator (who shall remain nameless as they deny they supplied the stuff) supplied a load of crap stone to a sports facility in Oxford. In a few months it’s broken down to grey mush and the tarmac above has lifted. It looks like the Dale Farm posse laid it I’m not the only TNUK member to see this mess, as Altitude was having a laugh/load there earlier too
Well done Ed, some gems of posts there. I was made up with the one about Tuckwells, with the picture of the Bedford, as I have got a model lined up to do, but my memory wasn’t too good on the body. Spot on that, cheers!
Ah so Tuckwells were near Bell Lane? Seeing the saxon gravesites reminded me of the story of Cassi crossroads being haunted by those whos graves were disturbed. I didnt realise Smiths were digging there pre 1948; after this the map would say British Railways not Great Western…

Some of them drive for us anyway Callum loved it got spoilt rotten as usual. Hes got to get a go in a new MAN at some point!
Cracking pics. there Nathan, where d’ya find all them! Remember that toll at Swinford, when I lived alongside there, being a right pain, and when I had a broken kneecap I tied my good leg to the pedal of a bike to get up to the village each day, for free! Do you have any info on a story I heard of a policeman being shot at the bridge one night? Think it was in the thirties.

Google Oxfordshire heritage search…Tyoe anything you can think of and click on photographic The only gun related thing I know of that happened around then was in the '20s concerning an armed robbery at Eynsham Station; Two men shot and killed a copper in Suffolk I think, and one came from Eynsham so while on the run they broke in to the station late at night but were disturbed by the porter. They tied him up and left with bits and bobs but in the end ended up swinging for murder
