Hi oiltreader, good to see you posting again mate! You been off caravanning! I did send you an e.mail or p.m. some time back, but don’t know if you got it, in answer to one of yours, but can’t remember what it was now, will have to look it up. Hope all is well with you, cheers for now. BigG-Unit.
Hi BIG G , we had a early tk with petrol engine in , and two commers all in the early 60s , We did have some photos taken by a long serving driver but he has now left and we do not talk to him ( caught robbing the tip money ) Any we then had one Commer commando , followed by a Dodge commando , followed by a Renault commendo , I have a photo of this but it was taken after we had sold it to Rush green motors so it was looking a bit untidy .
This was the first little merc we bought after a run of Sherpas , this was sold in 07 after we bought my 6t sprinter and I had a 3t sprinter vwhich then was passed down to Ginger who was at the time driving the 308 . The steering was very heavy on this 308
Cannot find a picture of Gingers first sprinter but this is latest sprinter .think it had just been in for a saftey inspection hence no chrome wheel trims .
Hi JAKEY
I saw your old wagon in Rush Green Motors earlier in the year so is probably still there waiting to be restored
I do remember back in the 70s or 80s you used to run a Ford of some kind but can’t for the life of me think what the model was
Regards
Routeman 67
Hi routeman , shocked my brothers Dodge is still there , that would break my brothers heart to know its still there , bet its a wreck now .
Also yes Dad had a very guttsey and unreliable Ford A series , He didnt have it too long ended up trading it in for 3 sherpas even bloody worse .
We use to have trouble starting the Ford even with the piolet start and that was in the summer, Dad got fed up and sold it .
Hi Jakey,
Thats the one, can’t believe I did’nt remember that model number
The truck at Rush Green still looks pretty much as it does in the photo, how long ago did you take it?
Regards
Routeman 67
Hi routeman 67 , we sold the dodge in early 2004 to them as we had bought the Daf lf in 2003 but kept the dodge over in our big store in wallingford for a while , It was a shame to sell it but it did over 15 years service and we needed to carry on getting a modern fleet . Her is a picture of the fleet in the mid 80s , my nephew looking a bit scruffy is posing .
A bit earlier in the 80s , we had a Merc on demo , wrong body though for rermovals but dads says they used it for a week but carrying garden items only , also two of dads ruddy sherpas bought in haste over a pint with a Hartwells rep

Hello George,
Apologies for not answering your mail, back in May/June, I had a problem with Tiscali/TalkTalk wiped my mailbox, losing contacts like yourself. Yes I am still motorhoming . Myself, well struggling a bit to get an MOT, chassis is showing signs of wear and tear, couple of welds here and there and a bit of lube, thankfully the engine is still ticking over like an Ingersoll ( you younger guys will be thinking what the hell is one of them).
Cheers
Eddie
I don’t know if any of our “Senior” members on here remember this outfit? Stevens Petrol Service of Oxford, this wagon dates from 1932, but I don’t know how long they stayed in business for or were maybe taken over by another firm! The address at the bottom of the door is 8 & 9 Rewley Road, Oxford.

Did a bit of digging and found these, Stevens were mainly coal merchants, also hauliers and of course the fuel delivery.
The models will interest you George.

Hi Eddie,
Thank for the info’, I’d never heard of them before. If they had the rail wagons they must have had a fair size yard! Do you know what happened to them, did they go bust or did they get taken over?
Regards
Chris
I’ve got a Stevens coal wagon; I’m trying to collect ones that ran on the Witney line, already got Bernard T Frost,Marriotts, Coles and some others. I think Stevens sold out to Charringtons as did Frosts. Both companies worked out of Rewley Road goods yard and had office space in the old LMS station building after BR closed it to passengers in 1951 and moved services to the ex GWR station. Stevens rented coal wharfs at Eynsham station aswell, I’ve seen an old ad in an Eynsham pub…

Hi Eddie, Glad to here you’re all good mate, I’ve been having a bit of trouble with me pump and fuel lines again! suffered a slight heart attack again in August, so a bit limited for a while, but still trying to make a bit of progress, Starting 2nd phase of re-hab class next week, so getting there! Came as bit of a shock after five years since the first one and doing everything right as they said, but apparently it’s just how I was put together, so just got to keep going and hope for the best! Still if that don’t get ya something else will, so no good worrying about it!
Thanks for posting about the Stevens thing, will be sorting one of those in the near future. I remember a Stevensons, but I think they were builders mearchants.
Hi Big-G, you are right Stephensons was a large builders merchants, ran yellow wagons with black lettering, in Lamarsh Road off the Botley Road, its now a retail park surprise surprise!
