Old Firms in Oxford Area

203k’s a lot; Mine’s only done 458700 odd on a 54 plate. She’s looking a bit tired now.

Saw this Beast at Cherry’s Abingdon a couple of weeks ago, got a 500 ■■■■■■■ in her, didn’t she sound a treat with the twin-stacks

Last day with my DAF last friday, she clicked over 500,000 so she’s earnt her keep! As with yours Nathan she looks a bit tired but still goes like a bomb, I would quite happily keep her longer but due to the new London emissions can’t go inside the M25 any more, (well, not without old Boris kicking you to death in penalty fees :imp: , the tank will be taken off & put on another chassis, a tank will outl-last at least 4 chassis so they get their monies worth out of them, do they do that with the tipper bodies or do they usually sell/scrap the lot?
Regards Chris

I know of one od that took the original body off a K reg Foden 3000, and put a secondhand one on the Foden (it wont die  ) Smiths don’t, they do re-floor them on rare occasions, one of the last Charrolds was but it put the tare up. Having said, our 2 newest tractor units are using the trailers from their previous units.

nice scania Chris , bet you havbe polished it allready :open_mouth: , "you tart "

Hi Ivor, Charlie seems to be following after Grandad, if it hasn’t got wheels he’s not interested in it (don’t know where he gets it from  ). Its just a shame he can’t come with me, un-authorised passenger is instant dismissal on our lot, unfortunately Charlie hasn’t got his ADR yet so couldn’t swing it that way either!
Regards Chris

These 2 trucks were parked here every weekend any idea where ?

Hi Steve, the Scania’s match our tanks quite well, got a couple of things I want to do to her, like with the chrome mirror gaurds on my DAF, I like mine to look a bit different to the others :sunglasses: . Got chrome wheel trims to polish on her so thats a start! I’m not always a tart, I can be a slapper too

Hi Lightswitch, isn’t it annoying when you look at a pic’ & you recognise something but you can’t put your finger on it  . Great pics though, used to see these rolling in & out of Cowley night/day, bloke I used to know called Roy Fowler had 1, he was on there for years.

Roy Cherry did tell me who owns it but I can’t remember, I be in there next week so I’ll ask him, he did say it had been sat in the owners yard for quite a while doing nothing (what a waste) & he’d just decided to get it done up!

don’t be silly what do you think the boy will be doing to earn his keep, these pictures take a lot of effort & cost to get to print,at least that’s what i was told & why i had to do so much cleaning as a youngster, come to think of it i never had my pic taken DOH!!!

Chris, when you visit Cherrys, ask them what happened to the old Smiths Foden unit that used to be parked there. It was in Joe Deans’ colours.

And a grand job you used to make of it too mate! Nothing like running back in & picking up one ready-sheeted then off up the road again to cop more night out money  , you can rest assured that wherever I was that night I always raised my first glass to you!
Regards Chris

Who remembers this lot from Witney? My next door neighbour worked for them & says it was a great job!

I remember Supergas, their yard used to be down a track off the old A40 near the Windrush pub. Apley barn I think it’s called. I read in a local history book that under there is a coal seem but it wasn’t mind because there was too much overburden to strip out and the seam was too thin. Supergas moved to Bromag Ind Estate at Curbridge Downs before they were taken over. You can still find their old gas bottles around, normally dumped bythe Big Fat Wedding fanatics…
The reg of that Scammell looks familiar; It might’ve been preserved??
