Old Firms in Oxford Area

Allans have bought some of Smiths motors for export; I know they had at least 1 3000series for export (shame, best sounding ■■■■■■■ on the fleet) and they also had a written off 8legger that fell over one day… :open_mouth:

Help me here Andrew, Barry ?, this was his F88, took her out a few times, when I 1st applied for a job on Cannons Barry took me out for my driving assesment in this old girl!

hi chris the barry you thinking off was barry blake(aka sexton) cracking pics by the way, also if you see squibby get some more photo’s of champs off him.

Hi Andrew
The 3 Champs pics I’ve posted on here are Squibbs, I didn’t have any Champs shots so called round his house a few weeks ago & borrowed those few. You are right mate you’re old Cannons Daf 2800 did look tidy, I’d gone long before they changed the colours, what ever posessed them to go from what I always thought was a great livery to that boring white with a couple of naff little stripes on the door? Barry Blake, thats the kiddy, had a couple of nights out with Barry, he could tell a bed-time story, didn’t know whether I should have had a pint in my hand or a cup of Horlicks! Is he still around?
Regards Chris

hi chris, hows things?don’t know what happened to blakey lost touch with most people as & when they left/retired which happened quite a lot what with me being the youngster lol!! i parked in south mimms this week late ish & fozzy was parked there with his daf but curtains were round so left him to his beauty sleep, have flashed him a few times but don’t think he recognises me in the davies fh.i can remember going into bibby’s for crossy as a subby & some of the shunters had had a sense of humour bypass(present company excepted) also remember seeing your brother in there as well,i trust he’s ok?

Hi Andrew,
Hows trix mate, I’m fine thanx! It’d take more than 1 nights sleep to make Fuzzy beautifull! Some of the blokes at Bibby’s were a bit grumpy I know, don’t know why, the job was a walk in the park. Yes mate, Colin was on there, he didn’t want to go far, bit like he was on Cannons. I keep getting waved at by someone driving a Merc Mega-Space in the white/grey Oxford Powder colours, do you know who it could be, ex-Cannons bloke maybe? He obviously knows me but I can’t make him out as we go past! I got some Croosy pics, they parked round in our yard round back of Power Station for a while so I’ll dig em out & put on here.
Stay lucky mate
Chris

Hi Andrew, here you go mate, new I had them somewhere!

And again!

Found another!

Old Berkshire Vale F10 I was tooling around in for a while, she may look scabby but once you’d stirred that 16 speed box up, she was a flyer! Pic taken in 1989, I was loading at Hunt & Broadhurst, Botley Road, Oxford.

RT Express, Milton Park. This was the Wendy House I had brand new to replace the old Berkshire Vale F10. In fairness this little FL10 didn’t go bad, but what a crap cab! Any wagon that you gota get out the drivers door, walk round & get in the passenger door, just so you can get into bed, scores pretty ■■■■ low on my Richter scale! Pic taken in 1989 in RT Express depot in Elland, Leeds.

Re; WR Cross, has anyone pics of the 2 FL10 tippers they used to run late '90s early 2000s? I used to load them in Gill Mill, looked smart in Cross colours and alloy bodies, had good payloads aswell. I think one went to C&W Knight.

Here you go Jakey, another 1 of your old BRS sheds!!! I’m actually parked outside Den Thompson’s house, just popped round there for a cup of tea!

John Hawtin (Zom) with his ERF outside The Sun Inn Hook norton

John Hawtin (Zom) With his Bedford

did they finish wr cross

I’m sure I’ve seen one of their Hanson franchised 8w Vollvos about. I can’t say when I last saw a curtainsider.

Geoff Duff, one of my old muckers off Cannons is pulling containers out of Southampton with his Cross FH12, saw him yesterday coming up the A34, don’t know what there other blokes are doing, if they still are!

HeyChris bet you got caught out with that trailer ? :open_mouth:

Hi Steve,
Horrible little things, we had 2, if you took your eye off it for 2 seconds it used to come round that quick it would be on the bunk behind you! They were meant to be easier for delivering in & around London, personally I found the left-■■■■■■ Frederics with a 40’ easier!
Regards
Chris

more picture please Chris

Ahhhh, the joys of Tesco’s at Didcot, before Digi-tachs when you could do a Friday & Saturday night to put some extra money in the holiday pot at the end of the week!
