Old Firms in Oxford Area

Didn’t like the job, but hey-ho, you gota feed the kids & the dogs! …Oh yeah, & the dark-side, bless her!

Minty Furniture, Horspath Road, Ox’. Picture was taken in the Scottish Highlands, bench seat to sleep on, blankets hung up round the windows at night, bloody freezing! I had started the run 1st drop Leamington Spa, worked my way up the country with about 15 drops, I used to be out all week in that old Dodge usually doing 2 trips, but the old girl never let me down once! Crap trucks but the job was actually not bad, you were left alone to crack on! I was young & keen & didn’t wana go home, & I learnt something new every day! Never be ashamed of what you have driven, cos you learn something from every job, good & bad!

Great pics Andrew, strange, I didn’t know Cannons ran so many left-hookers! Saw Duffy the other day, flashing his lights & waving, he still loves it doesn’t he!

Rather been up there in your Scania than the Dodge mate, but been back since in slightly tidier tackle. I remember the last load I did to Scotland for Cannons was a load of roof panels to the Govan Shipyard, Glasgow, for a ferry they were building. I got up there quite late & found the gate I wanted, it was winter & it was bloody freezing, it was before VAA had a night-heater fitted, the security gaurd was an old boy about 120 yrs old, smashing old boy sat in his little hut with a gas fired heater & portable telly. He said he couldn’t let me in but it OK to park right by the gate so he could see it & he would keep an eye on her for me. So I wandered off & got us both some fish & chips, when I got back he produced a bottle of Whiskey & we watched the footy. He woke me up the next morning with a cup of tea as he was going home, Happy days!
