Who was the company based inbetween Caverswall Castle and Catchems Corner, my dad seems to recall they used to go everywhere, before my time but he always used to tell me and IIRC a driver I used to work with says he used to work there.
IIRC its got an old Bassets Van trailer in the yard now.

Kenny Hawkesworth is a good mate of mine,we worked on Litcor International together.
The last time I saw Ken was at Jack Corrie’s funeral last year. However I called him a couple of weeks ago when I read in the local paper that Ron Doughty had died,he was on Litcor with us.
Ken and I chewed the fat for an hour or more.
Give him my regards next time you see him.
Can anyone remember when Barry Proctor started up? Cant seem to remember any of their older trucks, i can only remember them from about 2000 onwards with XFs and Globetrotters. Any picsoftheir old stuff?
i dont know when he started mate but i do know that he was going when i was making & repairing the tarpaulins & curtains for Terry Hewitt, so that would be around about 1986 1987 time.
that would be spencers transport, they had a series erfs too, i remember 1 of their 8 wheelers losing a wheel on tunstall roundabout by the cop shop & it ending up in a shop called top to toe.

Mart,
I think Barry started in about 86 / 87 remember him having some F10s /F12 s mate of mine drove for him in the early days, Barry was transport manage at Morris Neilds before setting up on his own. Sorry don’t have any photos.
Hey up!
I’ve just joined but should be able to tell you all you need to know about J Haydon & Sons, Livestock Haulage Biddulph. My Nan is John Haydon’s eldest daughter and I spent many a happy hour in the yard, garage, cattle markets, farms and in their wagons during the 70s & 80s. When I work out how to load photos I’ll post Albions & ERFs.
I’ve loved the photos of Berresfords on here and I remember Spencers in Newcastle U Lyme — red & black ERFs.
Mears were our big rivals — brown & red wagons with an Atkinson 6 wheeler (Gardner 180 I think) & drawbar. Also, Frank Fox had 2 maroon ERF cattle wagons, a 4 and a 6 wheeler.
I knew Gerard Williams very well — cream 4 wheeled sand tanker - Commer with a Rootes 2 stroke. Also Russ Bates (■■?) who had blue Commers — he used to come down to Wharf Rd on a Sunday morning to help my Uncle Tom in the garage.
I’m also related to Eric Armitt (2nd cousin) and remember when his yard was next door to Haydon’s (over the wall) and then down towards the Tin Bridge in the 90s. Good old stick Eric who went too young.
Oh and although I come from and live in Coventry I’m still partial to an oatcake with melted cheese & Branston …

you will know Mick Harvey and Stuart Gregory, and a driver named boon and another called unwin can’t recall his first names
Yep, got a cracking photo with Mick Harvey on - he left around 1976/77 ish and drove for Frank Fox I think. Do you still know him?
There was Sid Unwin and (much younger & unrelated I think) Arthur Unwin. Joe Boon was a Haydon legend - he worked there for absolute donkey’s years - must have passed now bless him and Sid Unwin’s been gone nearly 20 I bet - also have a photo of Joe for here.

This is “6 Legs” otherwise known as ELG 13F the beautiful king of the fleet - Gardner 180, David Brown gearbox, Eaton two speed axle, Kirkstall front steer axle and with a trailing non driven Eaton rearmost axle. Check the lovely gullwing mud guards & wooden box. It pulled a drawbar (to left of picture) with front wheels that steered - a REAL pig to reverse if you weren’t used to it and was often attached to the front of 6 Legs to be manouvered in the yard. That is Mick Harvey stripped to the waist cleaning it and the young lad looks like Stuart Unwin. Probably taken in the hot summer of 1976 but could be '75.
The Commer was driven by Reg Simms AEH 345H - Perkins 6.354 engine, Eaton 5 speed gear box Eaton back axle - known to be fast! The old ERF in the corner was a scrapper, B reg and had no wheels, up on cylinder blocks & a railway sleeper - just right for a 10 year old me to drive in before health & safety - steering wheel turned all the way but quite a few spiders in the cab Was finally towed away in 1977.
Yeah Stewie was a good lad although I 'aint seen him for about 35 years! This is poor old 6 Legs in 1986 on the scrap heap looking very forlorn …
The Haydon’s ERFs all had the number 13 in the reg. I think they were bought second hand from Woodwards in Cheshire (Macclesfield?) and they all had 13 in the reg - can anyone confirm this?
Hiya …nice to see the haydons motors…more to follow i hope…i could see the cattle trucks lined up at LEEK
market, I lived at the top of the bank nr there. Got a few cattle drivers names but you,ll know Carlie Robinson
the best.I later worked with him at Coopers in the 80,s.
John
How do - Leek market was on a Wednesday. Newcastle on Monday, Congleton on Tuesday, Banbury & Chelford Thursday, Mold & Beeston on Friday and Uttoxeter on Saturday from memory.
This is the yard in the mid 70s - the ERF with the silver box is parked on the wash - in the middle of the picture, over that low wall but a long drop down was Eric Armitt’s yard.
In 1977 there were 5 ERF 4-wheelers with Gardner 120s, a 4-wheeler with a 5 pot and 6 Legs. 3 Commers, a Bedford TK, a Leyland Chieftain and a Mercedez-Benz 6 wheeler.
