Never done that one at Dallwhiney but I drink the whisky distilled up there. I went up to Ayr to visit a friend a couple of weeks ago & I was surprised to see the old Tammashanter Cafe was finished at ■■■■■■■ another good watering hole.Regards Larry

I wonder if the Retreat Mohotel, Polhill at Sevenoaks is still on the go, it was highly praised by the Headlight Inspector in 1970 as top notch for the driver. I only ate there once but it was good , very mod, for that era. I used to deliver to a place at Ightham cant remember the name but I tipped & loaded there & returned home , one of the very few good jobs.

Another old transport cafe,Taylors Cafe & Garage Chepstow dinned there a few times on my way to RTBs at llanwern, probabley long gone by now.50/60s days when I was last in.

Hullo ,
I was in the Navigation in the 'Boro today (another match was won today , Brum  ) and I got talking to a bloke who drives for Wilton Transport. He said that the Cafe I was looking for ( the one that is now buried beneath the new A1(M) is or was called The Woodside. As I said before I remember the Cafe, but the exact location and the name escapes me completely. Does this seem right? Now does antbody recollect it ■■
Cheers, Archie.

I don’t recall a cafe called the Woodside on the A1 Archie/Dave,only on the A19 north of Thirsk.
Mind you if there was one near the A64 it would have been too near home for me to stop, but I wouldn’t have seen it anyway as I flashed by in my Albion/AEC or whatever. :stuck_out_tongue:

The Woodside I remember is at Knayton & was still open 2 years ago.

As i said im not sure exactly were itv was but you came up the slip off the a1 turned right, ran about 500yds an the cafe was on your left,it was big with a sloping t/park to the left and rear.Hope this helps.

regards dave.
P.S.The one at knayton i do know and used it when i was on the road also the one facing it on the s/bound lane.

Aye the one opposite was Georges Cafe open 24 hours it was one of the good ones , slept there many a time, but sadly to say its long gone, not many goodens left, Regards Larry
