Anyone remember Max Café on the Bath Road A4 near Padworth? According to Google Street View it’s still there and operational. I stayed there many times during the 1960s and we slept in old railway carriages at the back. It was five bob for your bed and buy your own breakfast. I drove for Bridgwater Haulage and nearly every time I stayed there, someone else from Bridgwater was staying there, either from our own company or Bown’s Transport or Peace’s Transport. Happy memories.

I’ve used that one in the 80’s, the railway carriages were still there then but rather derelict.

I don’t know if it’s been mentioned before but does anybody remember that railway carriage cafe that was parked on Shepherds Bush lorry park in the early seventies.
Regards Steve.

Not sure how long ago it shut (Witney Bypass opened around '77)

The Shepherds Bush lorry park was old railway land, which probably explains the presence of the railway carriage cafe.
There were a couple of little trailers in front of it like a patio with steps up. It burnt down sometime late 1970’s. A portacabin
type building near the entrance was the cafe after that, but some drivers took a walk under the Vanderbilt tennis place to
a cafe called Cafe Rest - remember that?!
Evening Gentlemen, anybody remember the DeHaviland Comet, used as a cafe at Trafford Park? now that was unique, what ever happened to it? The ex Owen Group BRM race transporter, converted to a cafe, my memories hazy on location, Cotswolds, A34, A40■■? The original wooden Sunset cafe, A449 Penkridge, Staffordshire, later rebuilt into a concrete and glass job, then like so many others gone, (yet another supermarket). Those handsome British Nylon Spinners TK streamlined artics from Pontypool always seemed to be there, along with most of Scotlands finest! Cheerio for now.

Hiya Saviem, did you manage to get your hay before it rained? Bewick. PS used to stay at the Sunset regularly after it was re-developed,it was the “bees knees” as far as digs went in the 60’s!
Hello Dennis, yes, and its really sweet, thanks for asking. Still got quite a bit more to cut, but Im leaving it standing, the weather here (Staffordshire/Shropshire border) is a bit up and down for the next few days. Cheerio for now.

The boat was called Westward Ho!

On the A44 (old A34) at Southcombe, near Chipping Norton there used to be a cafe now the Quiet Woman Antiques Centre. Was that the name of it as a cafe?

Yeah I remember that one being there Nathan, but I never went in it so know idea what it was like.
Hello Gentlemen, Chris W, thank you for the details on the Comet in the old Manchester Docks. When I was working in France I recall occasionally stopping at a Bar/Restraunt made out of an old Sunderland Flying Boat. Late 70s went to stop there and the site was full of equipment, the wings were off, fuselage was split in half, mid day, much heat, I think four UK reg silver F88s UK.ON. and a load of blue flat trailers. No one around to ask, (or to speak the Queens English with),and I was in a tearing hurry,(as normal) so to this day it has always been a mystery as to what was happening. I presumed as they were UK motors she was to be repatriated, anybody know more?? Cheerio, and thanks.
