Simple, dont do EU work lol.
It’s like working as a tanker driver. All that extra hassle for no extra pay.

OK, …Euro work, as that lass does. meet and deal with the different problems that come up, using your initiative, touring different countries. with excellent facilities.
OR
Up and down the M (fill in the gap) day in day out,.same ■■■■ run,.same ■■■■. same senery,.same destination to some ■■■■ RDC or another, EVERY dsy, ringing up for every instruction.
Go home until the next day to do it again…and again. …yawwwwn.
Hmm let me think about that for all of 2 seconds.

Surely every job is paid an hourly rate or annual salary for a fixed amount of hours (possibly with paid overtime) ?
It doesn’t matter if you’re swapping trailers, waiting on a vet or driving ?

Extra hassle? Tanker driving is one of the easiest jobs out there. I’d rather pull tankers than boxes or curtain siders any day

You have the hassle of having to get ADR and the risk of responsibility of carrying flammable cargo.

As you say more responsibility and more having to use your brain should mean more pay.
Boxes are the easiest job. I deliver to a place where you just back onto a bay they open doors and start. I dont even get out of the cab. When they finish they close doors off i go
Simply stand over the open tanker and light your ■■■ - no more responsibilities!

No,…YOU said that,…I didn’t.
Some of us are used to using our brain,.we’ve done the job long enough to remember that’s just how it was, so it’s no real hardship.
Tbh I’d rather work for LESS in a job where I have to ‘‘use my brain’’, than work at all for any wage for some micro managed modern outfit who feel the need to tell you when and where to wipe your arse.

Having agreed with Maoster earlier, Ill agree with you now. Having to engage one
s brain a bit, take decisions about routes and times, get asked about work by the office*, and generally be a driver, is much better than being a “meat-puppet”.
Not just old drivers here either, some younger guys enjoy the work too.
*We are asked, and our answers are listened to!

It’s only a matter of time until Euroland becomes just a larger version of our distribution sector dominated transport regime.
Like here rail is planned to take all the proper distance work.Which is why Germany is resistant to allowing proper LHV’s to run at proper gross weights.
Like here too many big rail freight interests there. It’s just a matter of time before the whole scene turns into an over regulated local shunting operation as part of the warehousing matrix system.
At least Adam will be happy.
What a ZB joke , we’ve now got the same people who stuck 2 fingers upto Europe by voting brexit , are now singing it’s praises & calling working in this country , why am I not surprised

Well, I am on £19 an hour flat rate. I get paid 10 hours and I usually do 9am to 6pm. (Haven’t finished later yet) I just drive to one location everyday. No thinking involved. Any issues its not my problem I just phone the boss.
Heck I’ve only had to hook up a trailer like once in the past week myself
Why would I take what would most likely be a paycut to do a job that would require a functioning brain and the ability to plan? I’m not gonna take on more work and more responsibility for less pay.
I understand the appeal to it dont get me wrong. It adds to the job satisfaction. But the pay should be superior.
adam277:

You wouldn’t say that had you ever done continental work, unless you feel quality of life has no intrinsic value.

Perhaps. Yet every driver I have spoken to that has done continental work has said although they enjoyed it they wont do it again due to many of the reasons I have said. Sure, for some it is family commitments. But, I think for many it’s the extra work required without the pay to back it up.
Also I have done EU work. (Just for like a week lol). But yea, that’s obviously not a long enough time to get a good feel for it and that was pre-brexit.
But if we look at some of the news articles pre-brexit it is no wonder why some people got put off of doing it.

‘Europe’ is a continent made up of seperate sovereign states.
Not an EUSSR.No one, except a bunch of indoctrinated useful idiots, is singing the EUSSR’s praises just ■■■■ the USSR before it.

Blimey Harry are you saying that quality of ( working ) life is directly proportional to the difference between a run between Barking and Birmingham at most or Manchester and Milan or Rochester and Rome.
If so we’re agreed.

I loved touring Europe doze,…but being ruled by them as if we were some sort of servile colony was a different ball game…we’re GREAT Britain ffs man.
As for working in this country in comparison to Europe in terms of conditions and facilities, well put it this way Ginsters pies and a can of Lilt in a lay by is something you don’t do over there…(after saying that I don t do it over here either.

We all live in the same country.
But that doesn’t mean that the neighbours have freedom of movement in my garden or shared ownership of my house or that we pool our incomes and bills or dictate where I go for my holiday or how I travel there.
We have a good laugh over the garden fence and sometimes might even invite each other round for a few drinks and a bbq but it’s best to not over stay or abuse a welcome as a guest.

Didn’t you day summat earliet about media exaggeration?
Are you applying for a job on the Mail/Express? Better tone it down a bit, you’re too strong for them.
