…if your boss pays for the course AND pays you to attend, then you’re VERY lucky indeed.
What if you get lunch provided and unlimited free coffee aswell? Maybe I should start playing the lottery.
Hi Contraflow,
I’m not sure what this has to do with who’s paying, because the coffee is provided by the course provider regardless of who’s paying for the course.
Contraflow:
The way I see it, you need to do it in order to do your job; your employer should be paying for it AND you should be getting paid to do it.
You can see it this way, and I’m sure that many (including me) would agree with you as to what it should be, but the reality is that UK law sees it as the driver’s responsibility.
I’ve got my 4th session on Saturday, my employer books the course and tells us when it is.
I am asked if I want to attend, if so they will foot the bill for the course and I give up a day to do it.
As far as I’m concerned it is a legal requirement, if I want to continue driving then I need to complete the course.
nick2008:
but as of sept it’ll be a legal requirement
thats September next year though isnt it?
unless he has the bus ticket aswell as they come into affect this year then us next year
If you drive PCVs commercially then it does affect this year but if got both and are not intending to drive PCVs commercially for some time then simply use next years LGV date which will then get the PCV dcpc back
From what I gather so far from VOSA … but yet too be tested in court for a true definition
If the driver is unpaid and chooses to do a dcpc course then the time can count as rest
If the driver is paid to do it or told to to it unpaid by the company that paid for the course then it cannot be rest
like you said not tested but as of sept it’ll be a legal requirement therefore not done voluntarily but as a requirement so cant be a rest day , just saying
I don’t see how there’s any difference pre or post September

Too many mugs in this game who think their boss is doing them a favour by letting them come to work for a day without pay.
psv8:

You come across as one of those aforementioned mugs.

Not sure how you work that one out, after September 2014, they would no longer be a commercial HGV driver, so no longer required to work or rest to EU tacho regulations.

Yes, unless you’re up to date with your modules and have a valid DQC you can’t drive professionally/vocationally ergo how can you be subject to tacho rules.

But I do get paid to attend CPC courses! Evidently, you don’t. If working for free suits you, then that’s fine; it doesn’t suit me though.
Would you like a cloth to wipe that egg off your face?
The periodic DCPC is the DRIVER’S legal responsibility. End of.
If your boss pays for the course, then you’re lucky because there is no legal requirement for the boss to pay for it.

Yes very lucky…to have your pocket picked for a few hundred pounds…if only i had thought of it first…i would be sunning myself on some remote island on the back of it…its a tax for god’s sake ! and of no benefit to me and thousands of other drivers…to sit and listen to some bullshine for 7 hours at a time …just put prime ministers question time on your tv for 7 hours see if you get anything from it…heavy eyelids probably fall asleep and some ■■■■■■■ that talks bollox,

It is a shame that this is true and a missed opportunity for all those involved. I suppose it might be like that because a perspective new driver self funding their vocational licence is unlikely to have an employer to pay for his/her DCPC too?
BTW Contraflow, one of my colleagues was paid to do his DCPC at his previous firm. He had pay back the cost of his completed DCPC modules when he left them to join us.
His training was ‘on the job’ with a JAUPUT approved colleague as an assessor, so effectively he had to pay them back for the pleasure of being at work…
