Pentalvers bought Bowmur’s a while back Mike. They are having a big new purpose built railfreight terminal built outside cannock so they can move from the A5 depot, and with all this expansion will be looking for lots and lots of drivers.

Hey Mike, I had one of Pentalvers guys on an ADR course in Southampton a while back. He told me that they’d bought Bowmur as shade said. He also told me that Pentalvers were bringing all the various scattered bits of their Southampton operation into one place. IIRC he said at dock gate 10.
Don’t hold yer breath though… I’ve heard that one before.

I don’t think they’ll all be recruiting EU drivers. From what i’ve seen (i don’t want to divert this into ‘one of them threads’!) there doesn’t seem to be many EU drivers doing that sort of work into ports etc…, where you need to produce photographic ID.
I’m not sure if i’m just noticing it because i’m doing that sort of work now but there seems no end to the expansion of freight by rail. I don’t mean that as an alternative to trucking it ,but as an addition to …its almost like an acceptance we can’t get anymore on the roads. All the docks i go to have absoluteley massive queues of trucks waiting for containers, the freight terminals like OConnors/ Freightliner at Garston and the one at Manchester etc all seem to be running flat out. We must all be consuming/buying goods like there’s no tommorrow!!

even the old royal mail depot as gone,its in the last throws of the crushing machine,every spare space is going into static container store,bit like a mini felixstowe.
wont be long before the sun dont shine in soton,with all the container mountains growing in there.

pentalvers sorry mearsk bought bowmuer about 2 years ago. come on lads keep up at one time not sure if its still the case but bowmuers did have a lot of foregin drivers at one point as they were struggleing to get uk drivers at cannock not sure what the cse is now though

It’s sometimes difficult to know fact from rumour though, becasue we hear so much info these days.

yeah we might be bringing it in but the reason pentalvers and most of the other outfit’s that store empty’s are expanding is we are exporting next to nowt
these mini mountain’s of empty boxes will be waiting for space on boats heading back for the far east an most of them will be empty goin over to get fille with stuff to come back over here

You’re spot on there mate. The only stuff i have collected for export mainly is plastic waste or old machinery from closed down factorys.
