Sorry to disagree RH but driving a lorry or any vehicle is a skill and no less important than a mechanic/electrician. As for being able to do it in a couple of weeks is not true either as I meet people with 30 years behind the wheel who can not do it properly.
The 1 day NVQ is a waste bit the new QCF NVQ apprenticeship delivered correctly is well worth it for newbies and for old hands COULD BE a good refresher but that is down to the assessor.
The comment on wages was aimed at the fact people on here say wages are dropping then you come out with a statement like that, in my mind it be littles the job a little. But forums are all about opinions and when it comes to training we will probably always differ
I think you will find its a bit more involved than training a electrician than a driver. Yes some are better than others same as in any job.
Decent on the job training and some classroom training can help us all but the current cpc is a joke.
Kr79 The current DCPC is a joke to some extent but this is the first run out. When changes are made the DCPC will be better received. Drivers as well as trainers are to blame as some of the courses are utter BS. JAUPT accredit it but the manager/driver buys it.
All new systems are flawed to some degree lets see what happens this and next year.
The DCPC is fundamentally a sound idea, where it falls down is how it has been implemented and delivered. It has been totally undermined and (rightly) seen as a way of milking money out of people. This is because alot of training companies spotted the flaws and exploited them to their own ends.
As Clara says, a QCF NVQ is a solid qualification. The DCPC should have right from the start have been brought into the QCF. Had it done so, the DCPC would have credibility as a proper acreditation of ‘proper’ training. It would also have been the first steps of changing the perception of professional driving not being a skilled trade.
Also, as a QCF qualification, there would be a progression route. Why couldn’t a level 3 or 4 NVQ become the training for an operators CPC for example? If they brought it all into the QCF, your DCPC /level 2 NVQ would count as Accredited Prior Learning (APL) for your operators CPC / further NVQ levels.

we all know what will happen with the next stage of this bs,it’ll turn into a pass/fail exam which will be adminestered by more blood suckers and bottom feeders, oops sorry,“training providers”
Most vocational qualifications aren’t pass / fail anyway. You are either competent or not yet competent in whatever you are required to demonstrate. You basically keep training until you reach the required standard.

Davyboy the only people saying test should be introduced is drivers. most trainers I know think thats the worst thing that can happen
Aye right, maybe you think that but the beaurocrats cant leave things alone, they have to keep expanding their wee empires, remember when adr tickets came in,you just had to turn up,next time i did it,lo and behold, pass fail exam!wake up!

But just think of all the extra jobs that could be created in the cockroach empire. Isn’t it worth risking our livelyhoods and homes due to a potential ‘fail’ if we do something as henious and ‘unprofessional’ as steer the wheel while crossing our arms or not using 3 point contact while climbing out of the cab or perhaps sneezing while wearing the wrong coloured socks. We as drivers might fail and lose our job but think of all the EU bureaucrats and lawyers, the government departments in each member state and the ever shrinking dole queue as legions of cockroaches read a few pamphlets to become training providers to truck drivers, all of which will gain tens of thousands of new workers to bleed yet another sector of tax paying private industry dry. A dcpc is completely unecesarry and is akin to arriving back in Dover to have your passport confiscated by customs who then offer it back to you for £500 to allow you to continue and carry on being the same person you were 10 minutes earlier. Government led extortion and nothing more.
