Now is the time to talk action

the olympics are not far away, the tanker drivers along with some political help, panicked the UK.
just think what could be done if there was an official threat of a stoppage during the olympics.
and that’s all that would be needed “a threat”.

the list of demands.
lower fuel duty,
better wages,
free msa parking,
less regulations,
better rdc facilities,

there’s loads more.
the government would be [zb]ed. could they train the army to handle all the freight into london?

so here’s the plan. “use facebook, twitter, and other social networks to spread the rumour”, and see if it wakes anyone up.

Theres a big problem with your plan Phil, we all know you dont work, so threatening to withdraw your labour aint gonna frighten anyone

Why would anyone take any notice of a few drivers when they no nothing would happen, and if it did they would just tell every one they are going to take money out of there wages to fit new lights for another driver and they would be back working within the hour.

you’re right, no one would take notice of a few drivers.
but if the rumour does the rounds, it could just work.

You’re supposed to deliver the shipment, not smoke it!!

Too late for April 1st.

No it couldnn’t, keep taking the tablets and dream on.

You missed out ‘motherhood’ and ‘apple pie’.

There is no one organisation with the power to give you everything you list, and if there was, it would be big enough to have taken everything away already. It’s just a random collection of whinge, mixing things which could realistically be improved (e.g. RDC facilities, where considered pressure applied constructively on the owners of specific RDCs might just make a difference), and things like ‘less regulation’, which are at the core of an existential crisis affecting the whole Western world, and which may well take complete economic collapse / war to get the pendulum swinging back.

Going on strike from a job which most of the adult population would be capable of doing after a fortnight’s training, and during a period of high unemployment, is a waste of time. Perhaps there should be a sticky on this forum saying that…

i think people are missing the point.
i know, and you know that no one has the power to change all this overnight.
but if a collective number of trucknet members (like those that complain about fuel costs, wages, and RDC’s) got together en masse to spread an internet rumour regarding a stoppage. then providing just a handful of bloggers believed it, then it would circulate the web like wild fire.
no one would actually take a day off, no one would lose their job, but panic of the masses could ensue, the polititions would want to calm things down, and promise to make things change. and we could all benefit.
but this will only happen if we all post the same story, at the same time on various social networking sites.
this should be done in the shadow of the fuel crisis, where no strike actually happened, but the threat was enough.
all we need to work on is a convincing template.
but if you are happy with the rising cost of fuel, and the disgusting treatment at RDC’s, then do nothing.

no need for that phil, just send an e-mail, outlining the forthcoming strike to Francis Maude MP.
He’ll do the rest for you

here’s my template.
do you have anything better?

British hauliers and drivers are entering into joint talks to discuss the the future of the British haulage industry.
the main problems on the table are rising fuel costs, red tape, low wages, and the treatment of drivers at distribution centres owned by large supermarket chains. it has become common practice for distribution centres to keep drivers locked in a waiting room for several hours whilst they use the trailer owned by the haulier as free storage. this is another huge avoidable cost to the haulage industry, and also very degrading for the driver.
the main proposal on the table, is a refusal by drivers and operators to enter London during the 2012 Olympics.
a spokesperson for the British Haulage Joint Action Group said “it is unfortunate for the people of London, that our action will see a food, and fuel shortage during the Olympics. We have asked the government, The road transport association, and the freight transport association for help, but no one listens. So we have formed a new group, and are going it alone. I hope all our 20,000 members will agree not to deliver inside of the M25 during the Olympics.”

And when the government asks to speak to the spokesman ? Who ?

I’m all for annoying the government ( it’s what they are there for ) but it needs to be thought through. As demonstrated by the mixed responses you get on here, you will never get the uk drivers to stand together. Bit of a pity really.

Except that gchq have been monitoring the site and now know the plan.

The flaw in your plan is that the tanker drivers were clearly up for it. Don’t see many on here up for it!

I can see the headline next week, striking lorry driver causes serious harm to himself decanting his own urine in the kitchen

no one needs to be up for any actual action. it’s just rumour spreading/scaremongering/propaganda. the action would be taken by the masses panic buying, and panic panicking. and when they have finished doing that, they will panic some more.

post the template on facebook, and see what response you get.
if we get any sort of result, it’ll show the power of what we as trucknet members can do.
it’ll be a laugh, if nothing else.

Pretty much 90% of that is rubbish.

Two weeks to train thousands of Drivers with what.

Even if fuel got through and people could eat it would pretty much prove our point when they see how good a Driver is after two weeks training.

The Country would be on its knees after two days.
